The Canada-France-Hawai‘i Telescope (CFHT) invites expressions of interest in collaboration as we seek to broaden our global community of partners. First, we invite participation in our Associate Partnership Program, utilizing our current suite of instruments spanning ultraviolet to near-infrared wavelengths with wide-field imaging and high-resolution spectroscopy capabilities. Second, we invite you to respond to the Call for Letters of Interest to participate in the development of the Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer through either the :

Si vous êtes intéressé, merci d’envoyer, avant le 28 mars à la présidence de la SF2A (presidence@sf2a.eu), avec copie au secrétariat (secretariat@sf2a.eu) une lettre de « motivation » accompagnée d’un court CV. Dites-nous à quelles sessions des Journées vous souhaitez participer, et la somme dont vous avez besoin pour participer. Le format de ces documents est libre.

6. Vidéos Femmes en Astronomie de l’OSUG
Dans le cadre des Journées Internationales des Femmes et des Filles en Astronomie organisée par l’IAU (jusqu’au 8 Mars), nous avons réalisé, avec l’aide de la communication de l’OSUG, 5 vidéos de 5 femmes en astronomie réagissant à 5 images iconiques : https://cloud.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/s/ksjf6oxENDpLLP3.
L’IAU a révélé une vidéo par jour la semaine du 6 au 10 Mars, et les vidéos sont disponibles et peuvent être diffusées aussi largement que possible. L’objectif : faire parler des femmes de leur recherche et de leurs travaux, dans un format court et percutant pour les personnes qui feront -on l’espère- l’astronomie dans 15 ans !

7. Sondage de ESO User committee
The Users Committee (UC) represents ESO’s astronomical community forming a direct link between the users and ESO. On an annual basis the UC is seeking feedback through a User Committee Poll :

This year there is a special focus on « Archive Science ».
The poll is open until March 26, 2023.
It is an anonymous survey, and the answers will be only seen by the UC members who will use them as input for discussions during the annual meeting of the UC and ESO scheduled in April.

8. Chaire Professeur Junior - Artemis Laboratory, Nice
Here in France there is a new initiative called the Chaire Professeur Junior (CPJ). The CPJs are intended for researchers in the first part of their career, with a strong potential to manage and lead a research team, as well as to participate in national, European or international projects. Once hired, the person would be on a tenure-track-like system. After 3 to 6 years they would become a University Professor, or a CNRS Directeur de Recherche.
The Artemis Laboratory in Nice, France has a CPJ position for the development of high power and stabilizer laser systems for gravitational-wave detectors. The position comes with a start-up package of 350k€. See the attachment for a description of the position. For this position at Artemis, the hired person would become a CNRS Directeur de Recherche after tenure. 10. First version of the PRIMA French White Book
Thanks to the help and reactivity of the community, the first PRIMA French White Book is now available at this link :

11. Gaia webinar series - "A scientific guide to Gaia Astrophysical Parameters"
We are pleased to announce the series of webinars "A scientific guide to Gaia Astrophysical Parameters", organized by the Coordination Unit 8 of the Gaia DPAC consortium, to be held on 4 different mornings in March and April 2023.
These 11 webinars are intended to provide to the community a better insight on the large set of different products released by CU8 in Gaia DR3. In each webinar, a coherent set of products will be discussed, as provided by a single software module in CU8, with given assumptions, implementation, best-practices. After each webinar, we offer to the community a dedicated Q&A session with the speaker. The attendance to this session is limited, to allow an easy discussion between the speaker and the attendees. To this purpose, questions can be presented in advance during the registration.
The schedule of the 11 webinars is available through the website and is reported below for convenience. Please notice that the first 3 webinars are scheduled on Mar 23. Numerical modelling of accreting millisecond X-ray pulsars (AMXPs) allows us to understand the physical origin of different observational signatures detected from these systems. Since the birth sites of these signals are strongly affected by the gravitational potential of the star, magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations in full GR (GRMHD) are essential to accurately capture space-time curvature effects and inherent variations in the X-ray spectra. Due to extremely small rotational periods, the surface X-ray emission from AMXPs presents a unique channel to constrain the dense matter equation of state via pulse-profile modelling. In this talk, I will present results from 3D GRMHD simulations of accreting neutron stars with oblique magnetospheres. I will also talk about the pulse profiles generated from the GRMHD simulations and their impact on M-R inference for the accreting sources. Apart from the surface features, AMXPs are also good candidates to study neutron star jet formation. Though there have been extensive investigations into black hole jet formation, neutron star jets remain highly unexplored. Our 2D axisymmetric study in the quiescent regime suggests that the thick disk collimates the initial open stellar flux, leading to jets like the Blandford-Znajek mechanism proposed for black holes. However, much remains to be done before we can draw a complete picture of jets launched from neutron stars. 3D GRMHD simulations of accreting neutron stars allow us to explore neutron star jet formation mechanisms in detail for the very first time.

14. Atelier SF2A 2023 - S20 : "The future of micro- and nanosatellites for astronomy"
We are running a splinter meeting on microsats and nanosats for astronomy in the upcoming meeting of the SF2A in Strasbourg, on June 23rd afternoon.
Small satellites (<50kg) have undergone a dramatic increase in number and capacity, providing astronomers with standardisation and cost reduction, with several French projects flown or planned. The S20 workshop will gather astronomers with an on-going/planned project ; industrial and institutional partners, to discuss relevant fields of research, feedback from past projects, needs from industry, and coordination of the community.
If you’d like to discuss what small sats can do for astrophysics, present your research and lessons learned, please contact us and submit your abstract before April 7 !

16. Atelier SF2A 2023 - S04 : "Open Science in Astronomy"
Astronomy is in many ways at the forefront of data sharing, with long term efforts for the development and use of community-based interoperability standards, sharing of software codes, and the support of services for bibliographic and reference data. Astronomy data sharing systems are also now being integrated in the new Open Science initiatives that have been established at the national level with Recherche Data Gouv, and at the European level with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Open Science entails making research (including publications, data, and software) accessible for professional, amateur, educational and societal uses.
This workshop will cover a wide range of topics related to Open Science in astronomy. It is intended to inform researchers about the latest developments in data sharing and interoperable data and tools. The workshop will be useful to astrophysicists who wish to publish data, and to learn about new tools and new functionalities that will facilitate their work.
