1. Journees SF2A a Besancon - atelier "Simulations numeriques et modelisation physique"
Dans le cadre des Journees SF2A qui ont lieu a Besancon du 29 juin au 4 juillet, le PNCG co-organise un atelier avec la Societe Suisse d’Astronomie et d’Astrophysique sur le theme "Simulations numeriques et modelisation physique".
Le programme preliminaire se trouve a cette adresse. Les propositions de contributions sur le theme de l’atelier ou sur des etudes galactiques, extragalactiques et cosmologiques sont les bienvenues jusqu’au 12 juin inclus. En esperant vous voir a Besancon,

2. La Société Francaise d’Exobiologie (SFE) a été crée le 15/05/2009
Il s’agit d’une société savante, émanation du Groupe de Recherche en exobiologie du CNRS qui a cessé ses activités le 31 Décembre 2008.
L’un des objectifs de la société est de fédérer les recherches en exobiologie au niveau français en facilitant l’établissement de contacts interdisciplinaires entre les chercheurs français. La société a aussi vocation à faire connaître et expliquer l’exobiologie à tous les publics. Son site internet , aura vocation à relayer l’actualité de la discipline, et apporter des éléments de compréhension au grand public (rubrique vulgarisation).
La première assemblée générale de la SFE aura lieu le 8 Juillet 2009. (pour plus de détails consultez ce site internet)

3. The ASTRONET/OPTICON European Telescope Strategy Review Committee : An invitation to the community to help shape the future use of Europe’s 2-4m telescopes
The ASTRONET Science Vision and Infrastructure Roadmap concluded that there is an urgent need to define a strategy for 2-4m telescopes at the European Level. Accordingly a panel has been set up to identify how Europe’s medium sized telescopes can best contribute to the delivery of the Science Vision and to propose how a suite of existing telescopes can do so cost effectively. This panel, the European Telescopes Strategic Review Committee (ETSRC) is co-chaired by Janet Drew (University of Hertfordshire, UK) and Jacqueline Bergeron (IAP, Paris). ETSRC will deliver a report at around the end of 2009.
Vital community input is now sought via a web based tool created for the purpose. The main consultation period begins now and continues until the end of July. The panel sees it as crucial to identifying a viable way forward that it receives input from right across Europe and from an equally broad spectrum of scientific interests in the mid-sized telescopes.
We would be extremely grateful if you would provide your input via our web form at this URL. The website outlines the panel’s task, identifies the telescopes under consideration, presents some early ideas, and sketches the kind of input the panel is looking for at this stage.

4. 3rd MCCT SKADS Training School : Towards the SKA - increasing the evolution rate in radio astronomy, 25-29 August 2009, Paris
The School is organised and fully sponsored by the FP6 Marie Curie training activities of the Square Kilometre Array Design Studies (SKADS) initiative.
The main goal is to attract and train potential users of the new generation of radio interferometers, with special focus on the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). It is not only aimed at radio astronomers, but also at young astronomers and engineers from all fields of astronomy.

The School will cover the following areas :
science and technology highlights of the SKA
scientific projects for the SKA Precursor instruments (ASKAP and MeerKAT)
science with SKA pathfinder instruments, such as LOFAR
scientific synergy with, e.g., ALMA and the E-ELT
new approaches in radio astronomy imaging (multi-beam, MeqTrees)
A requirement for participation is to have finished undergraduate (university) studies before the start of the School. The participation will be limited to a maximum of 40 persons. Interested persons are kindly requested to pre-register using the School’s web site form, and to have a presentation letter sent to the Organising Committee.
Pre-registration deadline : 15 June.
