2. Workshop : "Quantum of Quasars", December 2-4, 2009, LAOG, Grenoble

We are please to re(annouce) the organisation of Quantum of Quasars : The workshop which aims to bring together astrophysics and quantum optics. 50 years ago Hanbury Brown installed his intensity interferometer and measured 32 stellar radii by correlating photons. This experiment opened the modern field of quantum optics. Since then astrophysics sticked to the first-order correlation function, which relies on a classical description of light only. The workshop will the place to discuss quantum properties of light, quantum optics experiments, non-thermal cosmic sources, intensity interferometry, E-ELT and photon-counting detection.

Invited speakers : E. Rosencher (ONERA/F), C. Westbrook (Ins. d’Optique, Orsay/F), S. Reynaud (UPMC/F), D. Kieda (U. Utah/USA), M. Schoeller (ESO), J. Rothman (CEA-LETI/F), G. Pelletier (LAOG/F), I. Capraro (Padova/I), G. Henri (LAOG/F), J.-L. Le Gouët (Lab. Aimé Coton/F), F. Reynaud (XLIM/F), A. Beveratos (LPN/F), R. Parentani (to be confirmed).

The workshop will be held in LAOG (Grenoble) On December 2-4. Registrations are open. Please visit this website

3. The Astronomical Data Analysis Conference (ADA VI), May 3-6, 2010, Monastir, Tunisia

We are pleased to announce the Astronomical Data Analysis Conference (ADA VI), in Honor of Albert Bijaoui, from May 3 to 6, 2010. Held regularly since 2001, the ADA conference series is focused on algorithms and information extraction from astrophysics data sets. The program includes keynote, invited and contributed talks, as well as posters. This conference series has been characterized by a range of innovative themes, including curvelet transforms, compressed sensing and clustering in cosmology, while at the same time remaining closely linked to front-line open problems and issues in astrophysics and cosmology.

The ADA VI conference is organized in honor of Albert Bijaoui, and is held in Monastir (where Albert was born). One session will be dedicated to the GAIA project. Other sessions will include asteroseismology, exoplanet detection, large scale structures (weak lensing, galaxy catalogs), CMB (source separation, polarization), restoration (map-making, deconvoluion, modeling), hyperspectral data analysis, compressed sensing.

Keynote Speakers
- François Mignard, Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, France (Gaia project).
- Herbert Edelsbrunner, IST, Austria (geometry and topology).
- Tim Cornwell, ATNF, Australia (radio astronomy).
- François Bouchet, IAP, Paris France (PLANCK, CMB).
- Michael Unser, EPFL, Switzerland (sampling theory, splines, deconvolution).
- Tom Loredo, Cornell, USA (exoplanet).

Abstract due to January 25th, 2010.

4. Workshop : "Mars III", 28 March - 2 April, 2010, Les Houches

This is the first announcement for the Workshop Mars, to be organised in Les Houches, near Chamonix, France, between 28 March and 2 April 2010.

The goals of the workshop are to integrate the main results of both the recent Earth-based observations and the missions to Mars (MarsExpress, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, Phoenix and Mars Exploration Rovers) into a new global picture of Mars evolution. With the same spirit of the previous workshops, discussions among scientists of different disciplines will be encouraged and it is foreseen that they will help refine the scientific goals of the future missions to Mars. This workshop is an opportunity for the young scientists to be updated on the most recent results and to be trained in some specific data processing techniques.

Deadline for registration : 15 January 2010.
