Dans le cadre de la préparation de son exercice de prospective (2014), le CNES a souhaité que la communauté française entame une réflexion sur l’astronomie X (environ 0.1 keV à 100 keV). Une enquête a été menée auprès de toute la communauté en avril-mai. L’ensemble des résultats seront présentés le 24 septembre au siège du CNES à Paris, à partir de 9h30. La journée sera l’occasion de débats sur les orientations possibles et les grands axes prospectifs.
La journée est ouverte à tous mais les participants sont invités à s’enregistrer pour permettre leur accès au siège du CNES à Paris où se déroulera la réunion (inscription sur ce site web).

WISH (Wide-field Infrared Surveyor for High-redshift) is a new space science mission concept whose primary goal is to study the first galaxies in the early universe. WISH will be a Japan-led 1.5m telescope equipped with a 1000 arcmin2 wide-field, Near-IR, 0.2-0.5arcsec FWHM, camera that would fly by 2020 in order to conduct unique ultra-deep and wide-area sky surveys in the wavelength range 1-5 micron. A spectroscopic parallel mode (WISHSpec, Integral-Field Unit) in the same Near-IR range is planned and would be studied in France under the responsibility of LAM. Although the instrument design is still open, with the parallel mode, we could envisage very deep exposure times in spectroscopy over (relatively) wide areas.
Several photometric surveys are planned (1000deg2 to AB=28, 100deg2 to
AB=28 and 0.25deg2 to AB=29) that should take 75% of the science
telescope lifetime. Spectroscopically, we envision two spectroscopic
surveys (10deg2 to 8x10^-16erg/s and 8x10^-17erg/s). They will allow
to detect the first galaxies to z 15 (if any) and to physically study
the first generation of stars spectroscopically at 3 Beyond the above main science case, WISH would be excessively useful
to other themes related to the Programme Nationale Cosmologie et
Galaxies (PNCG) and the optimal balance between the major science
drivers still needs to be defined. The aim of this workshop is
therefore to help defining the science case for WISH and more
specifically for the spectrograph WISHSpec by bringing together people
interested in this matter. This meeting is planned to be informal with
ample time for discussion. Last but not least, WISH will be crucial because it will provide a way
of selecting targets of interest for the JWST and the ELTs. It will
also be complementary to other missions like Euclid/WFIRST/SPICA by
providing deep data in the 1-5 micron range. So, we invite you to participate and contribute to this WISH workshop
by sending an email to Denis Burgarella as
soon as possible. Short talks ( 10 - 15 minutes) are welcomed. The
workshop will be divided in several sessions allowing people to
present talks related to cosmology, extragalactic studies, stars,
planets and Solar system bodies but also to instrumentation to present
how they would think/use WISH. The presentations will be compiled and uploaded on a WISH webpage. Transmis par Denis Burgarella 3. Call for nominations for the 2014 MERAC Prizes Foundation MERAC is a non-profit foundation started in 2012 with headquarters
in Switzerland to recognize and support young European astronomers. There are
yearly three MERAC Prizes awarded by the EAS. The prizes of EUR 20’000.- are
for each of the three categories : The EAS Council invites EAS members to nominate suitable candidates for the
MERAC Prizes of 2014. This being an even year, the three prizes will be
Best Doctoral Thesis Prizes. The Prizes will be awarded for the best
PhD Theses in Astrophysics for degrees awarded during the period
