3. EWASS 2018 Session 14, "Gamma-Ray Bursts, Hypernovae, and Superluminous Supernovae : Energetic Cosmic Explosions 20 Years After SN 1998bw", 3rd to 6th of April 2018, Liverpool (UK)
Contributions are now accepted to the EWASS 2018 Special Session 14 titled "Gamma-Ray Bursts, Hypernovae, and Superluminous Supernovae : Energetic Cosmic Explosions 20 Years After SN 1998bw" (3-6 April 2018, Liverpool). The deadline for abstract submission is 27 November 2017.
Twenty years ago, the association between gamma-ray burst (GRB) 980425 and supernova (SN) 1998bw provided the first incontrovertible evidence that GRBs and high-velocity Ic SNe (sometimes termed "hypernovae") originate from a common progenitor. Hydrogen-free superluminous supernovae (SLSNe), discovered only in the past decade, are more luminous than SN 1998bw by an order of magnitude but evolve to spectroscopically resemble it at late times. On the 20th anniversary of the discovery of SN1998bw, it is time for the two communities of GRBs and SNe to meet in a joint effort to address the following topics :
models and observations of long GRBs and their connection with high-velocity hypernovae (including a talk celebrating the 20th anniversary of the GRB-SN connection) ;
models and observations of SLSNe ;
progenitors, host galaxies and local environment of long GRBs and SLSNe.

5. Numéro d’octobre 2017 de la revue "l’Astronomie"
Le numéro d’octobre 2017 (n°109) de la revue "l’Astronomie" de la Société Astronomique de France est en kiosque. Le zoom "Les mystères des sursauts radio rapides, 10 ans d’enquête", écrit par un astronome de l’Observatoire de Paris, Fabrice Mottez, présente une traque passionnante afin d’expliquer ces phénomènes rares et insolites. Janet Borg, rédactrice en chef de l’Astronomie et membre honoraire de l’IAS évoque les 5 ans de Curiosity. Un passionnant dossier sur Charles Messier vient enrichir ce numéro.
D’autres astronomes professionnels et amateurs, tous bénévoles, ont participé à ce numéro tant pour les actualités que pour les différentes rubriques.
