1. Appel à propositions de stages du M2 Astrophysique de l’Université de Strasbourg. DL 10 novembre 2011
La spécialité Astrophysique du master de Physique de l’université de Strasbourg vous invite à lui faire part de propositions de stage de M2. Les stages seront effectués entre le 29 février et la mi-juin 2012 (15 semaines), avec une extension à 20 semaines pour les étudiants inscrits en double diplôme en 3e année d’école d’ingénieur (Ecole Nat. Sup. de Physique de Strasbourg).

Le M2R grenoblois "Astrophysique et Milieux Dilues" a change de nom et s’intitule desormais "Astrophysique, Plasmas et Planetes". Les etudiants, apres une formation generaliste de plus de 250 heures, effectueront ensuite un stage de recherche de 4 mois, entre debut mars et fin juin.
Vous etes donc invites a deposer vos propositions de stage avant le 18 NOVEMBRE a cette adresse.
Le meme serveur permet egalement de deposer des sujets de these et vous pouvez d’ores et deja le faire.

4. Executive director CANADA-FRANCE-HAWAII Telescope
The Board of Directors of the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Douglas Simons as Executive Director of the Corporation, beginning May 1, 2012. Dr. Simons is currently Senior Scientist at the Gemini Observatory and served as Gemini Director until May 1 of this year. Along with his extensive management experience at Gemini, Dr. Simons brings to CFHT exceptional skills in astronomical instrumentation and in forging collaborative partnerships among observatories. For Dr. Simons, this is a return to familiar territory. He received his Ph.D from the University of Hawaii in 1990, based on work done at CFHT, and subsequently spent 4 years there as Resident Astronomer, before joining Gemni.
Dr Simons will be the ninth CFHT Executive Director, and will follow Dr. Christian Veillet, who has held the position since May 2003. Unlike previous Executive Directors, who were employed through the Corporation’s member agencies in Canada or France, Dr. Simons will be employed directly by the CFHT Corporation.

5. Call for observing programmes at the NRT
This is the call for observing programmes at the Nancay Radio Telescope :
Call for Key Project proposals at the NRT and
Call for normal proposals for semester 2012A.
Deadline : 3 November 2011.
The Nancay Radio Telescope (NRT, France) is a high sensitivity (1.4 K/Jy at 21cm) meridian telescope(*) with full polarization capability in the frequency range 1.2- 3.4 GHz. It is operated by the Observatoire de Paris, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and also funded by the Region Centre. The NRT is open to the international community.
The Key Project status is intended for applications which demand large amounts of telescope time (> 1000h for 2 years) or for long term monitorings. This status is given for two years, and up to 70% of the available observing time will be devoted to KP.
Key Projects and normal proposals will be evaluated by the Programme Committee (PC), with the help of external referees. All the proposals must be written in english.
Main criteria used for evaluation and rating :
how the proposal fit in the international context,
the scientific interest,
the technical justification,
a publication plan, if any,
the strength and the quality of the team (papers published in the field).
Observations and data processing can be made remotely. It is of course possible to come to Nancay to observe and process the data.
The Meudon, Orleans and Nancay scientific and technical staff provide support for the preparation of the proposals, of the observations, and for the data processing if requested.

6. 2011 Young Astronomers Meeting (YAM), 15th of November, Paris Observatory
We are pleased to announce the 2011 Young Astronomers Meeting (YAM), organized under the auspices of the RSC, to be held on the 15th of November at the Paris Observatory, France.
This meeting is funded by the EU through the "LASSIE" FP7 ITN. This one-day meeting, targeted at students and post-doctoral researchers, is an important opportunity for early-career astronomers and astrophysicists to present and discuss the work that they and others are carrying out.
The deadline for registration is November 1st, 2011. There is no registration fee for the meeting and non-LASSIE members (students and post-docs) can claim 50 Euros towards the cost of their travel. To claim this travel bursary you should bring a letter of support from your supervisor and receipts for your travel to the meeting. The schedule combines a diverse programme of talks with a generous allotment of time for discussion and networking.
Registration is now open. To register for this meeting, please send an email to Prof. Jean-Louis Lemaire (jean-louis.lemaire@obspm.fr). Please include your abstract with this email, indicating whether you want to present a talk or a poster.

7. The IDPASC Dark Matter Workshop, 17-18 December, Évora, Portugal
This Workshop is intended to provide an overview of the latest developments in Dark Matter experimental and theoretical research. The Review Talks will be given by Gigi Rolandi (CERN), Sérgio Bertolucci (CERN), Piero Ullio (SISSA) and Juan Garcia-Bellido (UAM).

8. Atelier Astrophysique avec CTA, 5-6 décembre 2011, Grenoble
Nous organisons les 5 et 6 décembre prochain un atelier autour des thèmes d’astrophysique couverts par CTA afin d’encourager les échanges entre les scientifiques actuellement impliqués dans ce projet d’astronomie gamma au sol et la communauté française, sachant que CTA sera un observatoire ouvert. L’atelier est prévu sur deux journées, à l’IPAG. L’objectif est de croiser un point sur l’évolution du contexte scientifique de CTA dans différentes thématiques avec la présentation des études de cas scientifiques réalisées par le consortium. Nous encourageons également la communauté à proposer des exposés sur l’impact scientifique de CTA dans leur domaine de recherche.
La participation à l’atelier est gratuite mais une inscription est nécessaire (mél à ateliercta@gmail.com ). Le programme provisoire et autres détails sont disponibles sur ce site web.
