2. La SF2A partenaire du film "Les métiers de l’astronomie et de l’espace"
L’association "Atmosphère en image" vient de réaliser, avec un soutien financier de la SF2A, une série de films courts métrages présentant et valorisant les métiers scientifiques de recherche et de haute technologie liés à l’astronomie et à l’espace.
Ces courts métrages sont regroupés sous la forme d’un 52 minutes chapitré (traduit en anglais : voice over et sous titres), et conditionné sous la forme d’un DVD interactif avec bonus sur les parcours des professionnels, information métiers, logiciels d’exploitation et C.V de chaque référent, argumenté de vive voix.
Ce DVD propose cinq portraits de métiers scientifiques et de hautes technologies choisis parmi les partenaires mobilisés et désireux de s’investir dans la promotion et l’information de leurs métiers auprès des jeunes.

Suite à la fusion des trois universités strasbourgeoises, les numéros de téléphone de l’Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg changent au 25 août.
Tous les numéros en 03 90 24 xx xx deviennent 03 68 85 xx xx
Le standard de l’Observatoire est désormais le 03 68 85 24 10.
Les anciens numéros ne seront plus valables à compter du 30 septembre.

4. The Daniel Chalonge Medal 2009

The Daniel Chalonge Medal 2009 has been awarded to
Professor Peter BIERMANN
The International School of Astrophysics "Daniel Chalonge" has awarded the Daniel Chalonge Medal 2009 to Professor Peter Biermann from the MPI for Radioastronomie of Bonn (D) and University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa (USA).
The medal was awarded to Peter Biermann for his pioneering, impressive and multiple contributions to astrophysics (as for example high energy particle acceleration, cosmic rays, galactic nuclei and black holes), and for his support and outstanding contributions to the Chalonge School. In particular, Peter Biermann is involved in astrophysical dark matter research in the standard model of the universe, one of the most discussed topics in the Chalonge School.
The medal was presented to Peter Biermann on July 25, 2009 during the sessions of the 13th Paris Cosmology Colloquium 2009 at the Observatoire de Paris HQ (historic Perrault building) in the Cassini Hall, which was attended by about hundred participants from the world over, among them three Chalonge Medals.

5. Symposium IAUS 272 : "Active OB stars",19-23 July 2010, Paris
First announcement :
Early-type (OB) stars dominate the ecology of the universe as cosmic engines via their extreme output of radiation and matter, not only as supernovae but also during their entire lifetimes with far-reaching consequences. Active OB stars are massive and intermediate-mass stars that display strong variability on various time scales due to such phenomena as mass outflows, rapid rotation, pulsations, magnetism, binarity, radiative instabilities, and the influence of their circumstellar environment. This concerns in particular classical and Herbig Be, Bp, beta Cep, Slowly Pulsating B Stars (SPB), B[e] and O stars, as well as massive binaries such as the Be X-ray binaries and those that harbor O-type subdwarf companions.
The IAU Symposium 272 will be dedicated to discussion of the structure, evolution, mass loss, and critical limits of active early-type stars, four axes of research that are currently providing important clues about the physics of these objects. We expect that the meeting will allow fruitful exchange by bringing together scientists working in the fields of O stars, B stars, Bp stars, Be stars and Herbig Be stars, at wavelengths that span the electromagnetic spectrum (especially X-ray, UV, optical, and IR) with emphasis on forefront observational techniques (e.g. spectropolarimetry, interferometry, asteroseismology). We thus expect that the meeting will result in further important progress in our understanding of active OB stars and give rise to new projects that will be undertaken in the second decade of the 21st century.
The key topics of the IAU Symposium 272 are :
the internal structure of active OB stars : pulsations, rotation, magnetism, transport processes
their evolution : stellar environment, formation, binaries, late stages (including magnetars and GRBs)
their circumstellar environment : disks, magnetospheres, the Be phenomenon, wind, clumping
active OB stars as extreme condition test beds : critical rotation, mass loss, radiation fields
’normal’ OB stars as calibrators : fundamental parameters, astronomical quantities
populations of OB stars : population studies, tracers of galactic structure, cosmic history
The IAU Symposium 272 will be held in Paris from July 19 to 23, 2010. Pre-registrations are open at this URL for those who wish to receive further information.
