1. Postdoc JWST CNES – Appel à sujets
Le CNES souhaite soutenir les équipes françaises impliquées dans l’exploitation scientifique du temps ouvert de la mission JWST (General Observer Program, ou GO, voir CALLS FOR PROPOSALS AND POLICY (stsci.edu)) en finançant chaque année deux post-doctorats (d’une durée de deux ans chacun). Le CNES lance donc la procédure pour la sélection d’un premier postdoc. Un appel pour un second postdoc sera mis en place dans un an environ, puis renouvelé chaque année en phase avec les appels du programme GO JWST.
L’appel à sujets est ouvert à toute la communauté scientifique française, selon les modalités suivantes :
1) Chaque équipe proposante devra fournir un document de 3 pages maximum décrivant le projet scientifique : Nom et/ou numéro de référence du programme GO obtenu, contexte, objectifs visés, étapes du projet, méthodologies envisagées, ainsi que la liste des personnes impliquées dans le projet. Le document devra être envoyé au plus tard le 09/11/2022 à minuit à olivier.lamarle@cnes.fr.
2) Les propositions seront examinées en novembre par un comité ad’hoc comprenant un représentant des Programmes Nationaux concernés (PNCG, PCMI, PNPS, PNP) et le Président du Groupe Astronomie-Astrophysique du CNES. Ce comité sélectionnera 1 sujet.
3) Le résultat de la sélection sera transmis aux proposants fin novembre au plus tard. Le CNES mettra le budget nécessaire en place auprès de l’organisme de tutelle. L’équipe sélectionnée organisera librement son processus de recherche et de sélection de candidat.e, avec l’objectif de le conclure dans les 3 mois qui suivront l’annonce de la sélection du sujet.
Remarques importantes :
L’excellence scientifique est un critère majeur. Les proposants devront notamment démontrer l’intérêt du projet, en termes de résultats attendus et d’originalité.
Ce soutien spécifique du CNES pour JWST est distinct et indépendant des allocations postdoctorales que le CNES attribue chaque année à de jeunes chercheurs sur la base de l’excellence de leur candidature. Ces deux processus – soutien au projet JWST et allocations postdoctorales – ne sont d’ailleurs pas mutuellement exclusifs.

L’ESA lance un appel à candidatures pour 10 places pour les Science Topical Panels de la mission chinoise Einstein Probe, dans le cadre de l’accord qu’elle a passé avec la CAS au titre de sa contribution à la mission.
Le CNES encourage les candidatures issues des laboratoires français, et soutiendra les scientifiques sélectionnés.

3. PhD Position at the Thüringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg
The Thuringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg (TLS) invites applications for a PhD research position to work on the project "Investigation of periodic maser outbursts in young high-mass stars with SOFIA".
The successful applicant will carry out original research in the field of star for- mation. Work will involve the analysis of SOFIA data of maser sources.
The appointment is for three years and will be funded through the German Aero Space Center (DLR). It is paid according to German public service scale TV-L E13 / 2. A master or diploma degree in Physics, Astronomy or related fields is required.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae including statements on education and research experience. They should ensure that two letters of recommendation are sent directly to the email address below by November 20, 2022 for full consideration. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. Starting date will be February 1, 2023.

4. AS SKA/LOFAR workshop on cosmic magnetism, Dec 5-6 2022

Through the CNRS Special Action SKA/LOFAR we are pleased to organize a 2-day workshop on low-frequency galactic and extra-galactic magnetic field measurements in preparation of the SKA. The workshop will be held at the Laboratoire de Physique de l’Ecole Normale Supérieure (LPENS) in Paris on December 5-6, 2022.

5. Optimal Transport Theory, les Houches , 13-17 March 2023
Optimal Transport theory contains the core of the solutions to diverse problems in applied mathematics, physics, machine learning and cosmology. Recent developments of fast new algorithms have paved the way for major advances in different domains of science. The goal of this workshop is to describe these recent breakthroughs, highlight connections with physical phenomena, harbour discussions to define new challenges, help start projects between participants and draw new research path in the field. The aim is to bring together different expertise from mathematics, Physics and computational science.

The conference will be limited to 100 participants to accommodate the maximum capacity of the conference center’s amphitheatre.

7. GISM2 : SUMMER SCHOOL ON THE ISM OF NEARBY GALAXIES
25/7-2/8 2023, Centre Océanographique de Banyuls-sur-mer
This school will be centered around 14 high-level lectures covering the observational constraints, the interpretative tools and the theoretical frameworks used for studying the interstellar medium in nearby galaxies. In parallel, each participant will work, in a small group, on a project whose results will be presented at the end of the school. Finally, there will be three round table discussions addressing the main outstanding science questions. The attendance will be limited to 70 participants in person.
