1. Message important pour les participant(e)s à l’EAS
Tout membre de la SF2A (à jour de sa cotisation sur l’année 2021), pourra devenir gratuitement membre de l’EAS (European Astronomical Society https://eas.unige.ch), s’il en manifeste le souhait (et uniquement dans ce cas). Nous insistons sur le fait que l’adhésion n’est pas automatique.
En pratique, vous devez mettre à jour votre profil dans l’annuaire SF2A (http://annuaire.sf2a.eu) et vous devez répondre aux questions suivantes :
Souhaitez vous être membre (gratuitement) de l’EAS (European Astronomical Society) ?
Etes vous doctorant (information demandée par l’EAS) ?
Année de soutenance de votre doctorat le cas échéant.
Pour cela il suffit de vous connecter sur l’annuaire et de cliquer sur “Modification” dans le menu.
Pour pouvoir profiter du tarif “membre EAS” lors de l’inscription à l’EAS 2021, il faut que vous soyez à jour de votre cotisation SF2A et ayez mis à jour l’annuaire avant le 12 mars. Au-delà de cette date, nous ne pouvons garantir que la mise à jour sera prise en compte côté EAS.

Un poste de maître de conférences est ouvert au concours à l’Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg sur la thématique : "Formation et évolution des galaxies et lien avec leurs objets compacts et trous noirs »
La personne recrutée travaillera au sein de l’équipe GALHECOS (GALaxies, COsmology, Compact Objects & Stars) de l’Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg. Il ou elle s’intéressera à la formation et l’évolution des galaxies, y compris la Voie Lactée, et leur lien éventuel avec leurs étoiles, objets compacts et le contexte cosmologique. Il ou elle devra être capable d’interagir avec des chercheurs travaillant sur des thématiques aux interfaces : par exemple, dynamique et populations stellaires des galaxies locales et distantes, interactions entre galaxies hôtes et leurs trous noirs, lien entre noyaux actifs des premières galaxies et réionisation du milieu intergalactique. La personne candidate devra montrer comment son programme de recherche s’insère dans l’exploitation des grands relevés, celle des futurs instruments (sol/spatial) ou celle des grands moyens de calcul
L’enseignement se fera au sein de l’observatoire astronomique et de plusieurs autres composantes de l’université de Strasbourg. Il concernera l’astrophysique (y compris l’astro-statistique, gestion du big data, intelligence artificielle et apprentissage profond, partage des données), et éventuellement aussi les mathématiques, informatique ou la physique.

3. ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme
To increase the scientific return from its space science missions, the European Space Agency (ESA) welcomes applications from scientists interested in pursuing research projects based on data publicly available in the ESA Space Science Archives.
The ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme is open to scientists, at all career levels, affiliated with institutes in ESA Member States and Collaborating States. Early-career scientists are particularly encouraged to apply. Research projects can be carried out at ESAC (Madrid) and at ESTEC (Noordwijk). During their visits, lasting 1-3 months, visiting scientists will have access to archives and mission specialists for help with the retrieval, calibration, and analysis of archival data. ESA covers travel costs from and to the home institution and provides support for lodging expenses and meals.
Applications received before 30 April 2021 will be considered for visits in autumn/winter (2021/2022). For further details, see :

4. Kavli Summer Program in Astrophysics 2021 : Fluid dynamics of the Sun and Stars
This is a reminder about the Kavli Summer Program in Astrophysics 2021 : Fluid dynamics of the Sun and Stars and to announce that March 5 is the new deadline for student applications.
The Kavli Summer Program in Astrophysics normally runs for six weeks every summer in alternance between various institutions world-wide and UC Santa Cruz. It involves up to 15 established faculty and 15 graduate students, as well as additional postdoctoral and senior scientists who contribute to the supervision of the research students.
The 2021 Kavli Summer Program in Astrophysics will be an online program organized by the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Goettingen, Germany, from 7 June to 16 July 2021, on the topic of Fluid dynamics of the Sun and Stars. The 2021 program (carried over from 2020) will be directed by Aaron Birch. The introductory lectures will be given by Aaron Birch, Matthew Browning, and Michel Rieutord.
The Kavli Summer Program in Astrophysics combines the concept of a long-term workshop with graduate student training through research projects. The six-week long program begins with a one-week workshop on the topic of the year, with introductory lectures by invited faculty and short contributed presentations. In the five following weeks, the students are teamed with the senior participants and are expected to make significant progress on their selected research project. During that time, the program hosts one seminar per day, while the rest of the day is dedicated to research. The students are required to present their research project to all participants during the last two days of the program and are expected to publish the results with their collaborators, either in the form of a refereed paper or a conference proceeding, in the subsequent year.
We are currently accepting applications from PhD students who started research on their thesis at least one year ago, as well as from supervisors (postdocs and faculty). Student applications are due March 5th, and faculty and postdoc applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
