1. Census of PhD students and young researchers in Universe Sciences
Hello,
The Société Astronomique de France (SAF) and the Société Française d’Astronomie et d’Astrophysique (SF2A) with the support of the Institut National des Sciences de l’Univers (CNRS) would like to help PhD students and young researchers in the Sciences of the Universe (astronomy, planetology, astrophysics, exobiology, astrochemistry, cosmochemistry, cosmology,...) during their thesis and post thesis. To this end, a major census of doctoral and post-doctoral students in the Sciences of the Universe has been launched in order to be closer to these young researchers and to be able to send them proposals directly.
The Société Astronomique de France (SAF) and the Société Française d’Astronomie et d’Astrophysique (SF2A) wish to propose regular actions to support them. Here are some examples of actions that will be proposed to them :
Participation in the various SAF and SF2A thesis prizes
Financial support for conferences
Communication on thesis work
Proposal to write in the magazine l’Astronomie and/or books for the general public
Proposal of animations or conferences for the general public within the framework of the SAF/SF2A
Webinar for thesis writing assistance/advice for competitions
Please pass on the information to all the PhD and post-doc students you know in your laboratories or doctoral schools. The census is done simply via the form on

2. Réunion des utilisateurs du Télescope Canada-France-Hawaii
Aloha !
La réunion des utilisateurs du Télescope Canada-France-Hawaii se tiendra à l’Observatoire de Strasbourg du 9 au 11 mai 2022. Cette conférence réunit les utilisateurs du CFHT tous les 3 ans et met l’accent sur les résultats scientifiques, l’instrumentation et l’évolution de l’Observatoire. La réunion de 2022 sera hybride pour permettre aux participants d’assister en personne ou en ligne.
Etant donné qu’il s’agit de la première réunion des utilisateurs en mode hybride, le Comité Local d’Organisation a décidé de procéder à un sondage pour évaluer le nombre de personnes intéressées par une participation en personne ou une participation en ligne. Ces informations vont nous aider à définir nos besoins en termes de capacité d’accueil, de réseau, d’hôtels, etc.

Après adoption de la mission Ariel de l’ESA en 2020, pour un lancement en 2029, le projet suit son cours avec une revue de design préliminaire programmée en 2022. Ariel doit réaliser un relevé spectroscopique de transits planétaires sur un échantillon d’environ 1000 planètes, et permettra de rassembler des données statistiques sur la caractérisation des atmosphères d’exoplanètes. La France est tres impliquée, avec un rôle de co-PI, la fourniture de l’instrument AIRS et les activités de segment sol et exploitation scientifique, sous la responsabilité du CNES, CEA, IAP, IAS, LESIA. Sur le schéma de la journée Ariel France tenue en janvier 2021, une journée scientifique se tiendra le 12 janvier 2022 à l’IAP pour permettre à l’ensemble de la communauté française de s’impliquer dans la mission, qui comporte en particulier une ouverture à la communauté internationale en « science ouverte ». L’insertion d’Ariel dans des collaborations avec les autres instruments sol ou espace est un élément important pour préparer le retour scientifique optimal. Nous invitons donc les chercheurs ou doctorants à participer à cette journée, et à proposer des contributions orales sur les différents aspects, théoriques, observationnels ou programmatiques en relation avec Ariel. Cette journée se tiendra en mode hybride, en présentiel à l’IAP (nombre de places limité) et en connexion à distance. Site de la journée Ariel-France :

I’m pleased to announce that the abstract submission is open for EGU 2022, held in Vienna on 3-8 April 2022.
The deadline for the abstract submission is 12 January 2022, 13:00 CET or, for those applying for EGU travel support, 1 December 2021.
I would like to draw your attention to our session : Atmospheres and exospheres of terrestrial planets, satellites, and exoplanets
"This session primarily focuses on the neutral atmospheres of terrestrial bodies other than the Earth. This includes not only Venus and Mars, but also exoplanets with comparable envelopes and satellites carrying dense atmospheres such as Titan or exospheres such as Ganymede. We welcome contributions dealing with processes affecting the atmospheres of these bodies, from the surface to the exosphere. We invite abstracts concerning observations, both from Earth or from space, modeling and theoretical studies, or laboratory work. Comparative planetology abstracts will be particularly appreciated.”

5. 2nd ESCAPE VO School - 2nd announcement
The ESCAPE project is organising its second international Virtual Observatory (VO) school as a hybrid meeting at the Observatoire Astronomique de Strasbourg, France and online in Zoom. The School will take place from February 22-24 2022 and on March 04 2022. VO experts will lecture and tutor the participants on the usage of VO tools and services. Real life examples of scientific applications will be given. Three days will be dedicated to hands-on exercises, which will allow participants to become fully familiar with the VO capabilities on their own laptops. On 04 March we will have an on-line session with presentation of participants use cases and how they make use of the VO-skills learned at the school.
In order to ensure the right level of interaction, participation will be restricted to a limited number of participants (25 at site and 25 remotely). Preference will be given to PhD students and post-docs.
Depending on the development of the Covid19 situation, the school might be happening as a full on-line event.

6. Atelier "Hot topics in Modern Cosmology - SW14", du 1 au 7 mai 2022 (IESC Cargèse)
Spontaneous Workshop (SW) brings together specialists in particle physics, astrophysics and theoretical physics at the Institute of Scientific Studies of Cargèse (IESC) to exchange recent knowledge on Cosmology in a constructive atmosphere. The goal is to stimulate debate for generating innovative ideas on emerging issues. With this in mind, the number of participants is limited to 30 and the workshop program is based on an optimal number of concise presentations, with a sufficient discussion space to facilitate interactions between participants. Postdoctoral and PhD students are encouraged to participate.

7. Edmée Chandon et féminisation de l’espace public
Edmée Chandon est la première femme française à avoir eu un poste d’astronome professionnelle (à l’observatoire de Paris). Vous trouverez un brève biographie ici :

Un square parisien du XIème arrondissement (où elle naquit) vient d’être nommé ‘Edmée Chandon’. Une cérémonie dévoilant la nouvelle plaque s’est déroulée à cette occasion le 20 Novembre, organisée par la mairie du XIème arrondissement.
Cette cérémonie coïncidait aussi avec le colloque Femmes & Sciences qui s’est tenu les 19 et 20 novembre à Paris.

8. Rappel : Atelier Zoom sur les stéréotypes et biais inconscients lundi prochain
Aujourd’hui, en astronomie et astrophysique, les femmes sont toujours bien moins nombreuses que les hommes (24% de chercheuses à l’INSU). Pourquoi cette différence ? Que faire ?
En partant de ces questions, nous proposons un atelier Zoom le 29 novembre de 14h à 17h. Notre intervenante sera Isabelle Régner, professeure en psychologie, responsable de l’équipe cognition et neurosciences sociales, et vice-présidente d’Aix-Marseille Université en charge des questions d’égalité femmes-hommes et de la lutte contre les discriminations. Elle nous parlera en particulier des effets de biais inconscients et des stéréotypes genrés dans notre quotidien de scientifiques, y compris dans les processus d’évaluation et d’auto-évaluation. Son intervention sera suivie d’un échange avec les participantes et participants.
L’atelier est ouvert à toute personne de la communauté A&A. L’objectif est de partager et de diffuser des références qui vont nous permettre d’avancer et de nous positionner sur ces questions et d’identifier les dispositifs possibles pour faire changer les choses.
La formation sera faite en visioconférence, avec la possibilité de tester ses propres biais directement en ligne de manière anonyme et confidentielle. Les inscriptions sont ouvertes jusqu’au 26 novembre 2021 en remplissant l’Evento suivant :
