Un poste de maître de conférences en modélisation numérique et calcul haute performance en astrophysique est ouvert au concours à l’Université de Paris en section 34. La personne recrutée intégrera l’équipe de Modélisation des Plasmas Astrophysiques (LMPA) du laboratoire AIM.

2. Report on Dark & Quiet skies for Science and Society
From 5 to 9 October 2020, more than 950 people took part in an online Workshop on Dark and Quiet Skies for Science and Society :

Drawing on this event, a report is now available online,

which describes the impact of human activities on the visibility of the starry sky and the progress of the science of astronomy. Crucially, the document makes recommendations for actions that local governments can take to preserve dark and quiet skies. These topics will be explored further in the SATCON2 workshop in Spring 2021 as well as in an in-person follow-up of the Conference “Dark and Quiet Skies for Science and Society” tentatively scheduled for next autumn in La Palma, Spain.

of this report will be presented to the United Nations Science and Technology Sub-Committee (STSC) of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). COPUOS requested this meeting and the recommendations with the goal of protecting the science of astronomy. The feedback from the COPUOS STSC will be used to finalise the report, which will then be presented at the full COPUOS meeting in August 2021.

Cette enquête, ouverte jusqu’au 31 janvier 2021, s’adresse aux mères et pères, ou aux personnes qui ont la responsabilité d’un ou plusieurs enfants, qui exercent, ou ont exercé, un métier de la recherche quel qu’il soit (chercheur-se, enseignant.e, administratif-ve, technicien-ne, ingénieur-e) et quelles que soient la durée et la stabilité de cet emploi.
L’analyse des données recueillies, systématiquement anonymisées, sera publicisée au travers des supports de communication du CNRS, des réseaux universitaires des référents à l’égalité hommes/femmes et de publications à caractère scientifique.

5. EAS 2021 - SS22 - The Great Dimming of Betelgeuse
The registration and abstract submission for the EAS 2021 virtual conference are now opened. We invite contributions to Special Session 22 on the Great Dimming of Betelgeuse. In Winter 2019-2020, the nearby red supergiant star Betelgeuse experienced an historic dimming, catching attention all over the world for an impending supernova. Since then several scenarios have been put forward in the literature, however no consensus has been so far reached. The aim of this special session is to stimulate discussions among the different teams studying the Great Dimming. The discussion will be framed in the broader context of the mass loss of red supergiant stars and how it affects their ultimate fate : the supernova explosion, and their destiny as neutron stars or black holes.

6. SKA Science 2021 "A precursor view of the SKA sky" : Registration Open
We are very pleased to announce that registration for the 2021 SKA science meeting, entitled "A precursor view of the SKA sky" is now open via the conference website :

In the year that marks the establishment of the SKA Observatory, as well as the start of SKA construction activities, we want to bring the focus to science with the new and exciting results that are being produced by the SKA precursors and pathfinders and their implication for SKA.
The conference will be a fully virtual event, to be held on 15-19 March 2021. This new virtual format will allow us to welcome participation across all time zones.
Our conference will include plenary sessions organised by the SOC, as well as splinter sessions organised independently by the Science Working Groups.
The registration fee will be £40 per person (£20 for students).

Programme Jeunes Talents L’Oréal-UNESCO pour les Femmes et la Science : Appel à candidatures
La Fondation L’Oréal, en partenariat avec la Commission nationale française pour l’UNESCO et l’Académie des sciences, est heureuse de vous annoncer l’ouverture de l’appel à candidature de l’édition 2021 du programme Jeunes Talents France L’Oréal-UNESCO Pour les Femmes et la Science.
Créé en 2007, ce programme a pour objet de révéler et récompenser de jeunes chercheuses talentueuses. Au total, 300 jeunes femmes ont bénéficié d’une dotation L’Oréal-UNESCO Pour les Femmes et la Science.
En 2021, la Fondation L’Oréal remettra 35 dotations en France. Au minimum, 5 de ces dotations seront dédiées à des chercheuses effectuant leurs travaux de recherche dans les Outre-mer.
d’un montant de 15 000 € chacune à des doctorantes,
d’un montant de 20 000 € chacune à des post-doctorantes.
Nous encourageons les chercheuses à soumettre leur dossier.
