1. Lancement du concours Photo « Sciences grand angle »
Le Collège des sociétés savantes académiques de France lance cette année la première édition de “Sciences grand angle”, un concours photo ouvert aux adhérent·es d’une quinzaine de sociétés et associations membres du Collège dont vous trouverez la liste sur la page web du concours.
Ce concours permettra d’illustrer – auprès du public, mais aussi parmi nous – la diversité de nos activités par la constitution d’une galerie de photos d’objets d’études et de portraits de scientifiques en action qui sera retrouvée sur le site web du Collège et sur ses comptes de réseaux sociaux. Une sélection de ces photos pourrait être publiée sous forme d’un livre, d’un calendrier, voire donner lieu à des expositions dans des lieux emblématiques des sciences.
Prix du jury et du jeune public :
Deux « prix du jury” d’une valeur de 300 euros chacun seront décernés en décembre 2024 par un jury associant scientifiques et acteurs de la société. Deux “prix du jeune public” supplémentaires de 300 euros seront également attribués. Les photos gagnantes seront utilisées comme cartes de vœux officielles du Collège pour l’année 2025. Les prix seront remis lors du prochain Congrès du Collège les 3 et 4 février 2025 à Montpellier.
Deux catégories de photos peuvent être soumises :
- « La construction des savoirs”: Les photos dans cette catégorie montreront des scientifiques en action dans leur environnement de travail, ainsi que des installations ou bâtiments de recherche.
- “Objets d’études”: Les photos dans cette catégorie montreront des photos, souvent réalisées à l’aide d’instruments scientifiques, d’objets d’études scientifiques, de l’atome à l’univers en passant par les livres et manuscrits, les cellules, les plantes ou animaux, les artefacts archéologiques, les représentations d’objets mathématiques, etc.

Format des soumissions:
- Les images doivent être soumises aux formats : .tif, .tiff, .jpg, .jpeg
- Les images doivent être libres de droit
- Syntaxe du nom des fichiers : acronyme-societe_prénom-nom_titre.tif/jpg où : « acronyme-societe » est le l’acronyme de la société savante dont le/la participant·e est adhérent·e (exemple: SF2A, SFBD, SFM…); « patronyme » est le nom de famille de l’auteur/trice ; et « titre » correspond au titre raccourci de la photo (<15 caractères). Exemple: SFBD_sylvie-dupont_pistil.jpg
- Les images doivent idéalement avoir une taille minimale de 2000×2000 pixels (max 40Mo).
- Chaque image sera accompagnée :
- d’un titre (≤ 40 signes);
- d’une légende destinée au grand public de 50 à 75 mots (max 500 signes) en français ou en anglais).
- Le cas échéant, la taille du pixel ou du champ de vue des images devra être indiquée afin de donner un ordre de grandeur de l’échelle du sujet/objet photographié.
Chaque participant·e peut soumettre jusqu’à trois photos. La date limite de soumission des photos est le 25 juin 2024 à 23h59. N’attendez pas la dernière minute!

2. The RED Astrobiology Introductory Virtual School, June 10th-14th, 2024 : Registration open
RED is a Training School about the “Basics in Astrobiology”. Astrobiology addresses questions related to the origins of life, its evolution, and distribution in the Universe. This school aims to offer interdisciplinary training in astrobiology to students and young researchers having a master’s degree in astronomy, planetology, geology, chemistry, biology, or history and philosophy of science. If you are a master’s student, preparing a thesis, or are an early career scientist with a subject related to astrobiology, this training school is for you!
From June 10th to 14th, we invite you to participate in the Virtual RED Astrobiology School. This virtual school is based on the lectures from the “in-person” school held in Le Teich (France) in March 2024. Registering for the school will offer you an opportunity to listen to the lessons filmed on-site, interact directly with the lecturers, ask questions, and engage in conversations with other participants from all over the world!
Participants who watch the whole lecture series and succeed in short quizzes about it will receive a certificate of attendance. Live animations and Q&A sessions will be organized at CEST (UTC + 2), but you can watch the lectures and replays of the Q&A session at your convenience in your time zone.

The Europlanet Science Congress 2024 will be held at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, from the 8 – 13 September 2024.
We are calling for contributions to the MITM8 session:
« Future and current instruments to detect and characterise extrasolar planets and their environment”

Rational of the session: Exoplanets are being discovered in large numbers thanks to recent and ongoing surveys using state-of-the-art instrumentation from the ground and from space. In the next years, new astronomical instruments will scout ever more distant regions of our Galaxy and they will validate new technology for the ultimate direct characterisation of temperate exoplanets. Such a change of physical and technological horizon will allow us to overcome the current observational biases in the search of alien worlds, and to gain a deeper understanding of the chemical and physical properties of exoplanets and the environment that surround them. Ultimately, we will be able to unveil processes of formation and evolution of planets, together with those of their atmospheres, on a scale much larger than our Solar Neighbourhood.
The goal of this session is to bring together the instrumentation and observational communities that are underpinning the future of this field. Contributions are invited to review ongoing programmes of both exoplanet and circumstellar discs discovery and characterisation, to update on the progress of planned instrumentation programmes, and to present innovative ideas for future instrumentation.
The session is part of both the « Missions, Instrumentation,Techniques, Modelling (MITM) » and « Exoplanets, Origins of Planetary Systems and Astrobiology » programmes.
