3. Gemini Director Search

The International Gemini Observatory seeks a Director to lead the observatory in the 2020s and beyond. Gemini is undergoing an evolution that will transform its suite of instrumentation and adaptive optics capabilities. We are seeking an individual with experience in leading international teams and managing scientific laboratories. We have a strong preference for the Director to be based on the island of Hawai’i.

4. IAU General Assembly in Cape Town

In less than one month, we will be in Cape Town and online to welcome our astronomy global community to one of the most awaited General Assemblies — and already historical — the first GA in the African Continent.

The National Organising Committee has gone above and beyond to provide all participants with a warm welcome and an unforgettable experience, making Cape Town feel like home from the 6 to the 15 of August. This will also be a fully hybrid conference that enables virtual participation from anywhere in the world.

5. Cherenkov Astronomy Data School (CADS 2024), October 14-18 2024, Paris (France)

Nous avons le plaisir d’organiser une école d’une semaine sur l’astronomie des rayons gamma à l’Observatoire de Paris, conçue pour les doctorants/postdocs/chercheurs désireux d’apprendre sur les données de l’astronomie des rayons gamma et les défis spécifiques des observations Cherenkov au sol et de l’analyse des données de haute énergie. L’outil d’analyse scientifique Gammapy, choisi par/pour l’observatoire international CTAO (Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory), sera présenté. Les conférences et les travaux pratiques (débutants et utilisateurs expérimentés) auront lieu sur deux sites de l’Observatoire de Paris, à Paris et à Meudon.

6. Exobiologie Jeunes Chercheurs·ses (EJC), Novembre 4-6 2024, Paris (France)

We are delighted to invite you to the national « Exobiology Young Researchers Conference » (EJC), taking place from November 4th to 6th, 2024 at Université Paris Cité, Campus Grands Moulins, just before the day of the Société Française d’Exobiologie!

EJC brings together young researchers (from Master’s to Postdoctoral levels) engaged in the study of the origin of life, its evolution, and detection, both on Earth and in the Universe. The aim of this conference is to foster interdisciplinary exchange, where you can present your research, share ideas, and establish collaborations. Biologists, chemists, physicists, astronomers, geologists, your contributions on the following topics are all welcome:
– Emergence of life and prebiotic chemistry
– Space exploration and observations
– Persistence and extremophiles
– Habitability: from Earth to Exoplanets
We will also host a roundtable discussion on science communication in exobiology!

L’Observatoire de Paris – PSL vous invite à vous connecter en direct sur Zoom, le mardi 16 juillet 2024, de 11h à 12h.

Séminaire de culture scientifique, avec Susanna Vergani, Directrice de recherche CNRS à l’Observatoire de Paris – PSL (LUTh).

Titre : La mission SVOM : les sursauts gamma de A à Z

Résumé : Le satellite sino-français SVOM a été lancé avec succès le 22 juin dernier. Son but : l’étude des sursauts gamma, d’une façon novatrice. Ces phénomènes extrêmement énergétiques, et encore emprunts de mystères, cinquante ans après leur découverte, nous permettent d’explorer la physique des jets, la formation des éléments lourds dans l’Univers, les premières galaxies et étoiles. Dans ce webinaire, on vous dit tout sur la mission SVOM, et comment elle va nous permettre d’avancer dans la compréhension des sursauts gamma et dans leur utilisation pour comprendre l’évolution stellaire et l’enrichissement chimique de l’Univers.

La présentation durera 40 minutes et sera suivie d’une plage de 15 minutes dédiées aux questions.
