1. Renouvellement du conseil de la SF2A – Date limite 9 avril 2026, 12h CEST
La Société Française d’Astronomie et d’Astrophysique (SF2A), association loi 1901, a pour but de contribuer au développement et au rayonnement de l’astronomie en France et d’y associer l’ensemble des spécialistes d’astronomie concourant à ce même objectif. Sous le haut patronage de l’Académie des Sciences, elle coordonne les actions et assure la représentation de la communauté française dans l’Union Astronomique Internationale (IAU) ainsi qu’à l’European Astronomical Society (EAS). La SF2A est administrée par un Conseil d’Administration de 12 membres élus pour 4 ans par l’Assemblée Générale au scrutin secret, uninominal, majoritaire à un tour.
La moitié du conseil de la SF2A doit être renouvelée en 2026, soit six personnes.
Les membres du Conseil dont le mandat arrive à terme sont : Olivia Venot (présidente), Nadège Lagarde (vice-présidente), Julien Malzac (vice-président international), Kévin Baillé (trésorier), Rhita-Maria Ouazzani (responsable commission Femmes & Astronomie), Matthieu Bethermin (webmaster).
Nous sollicitons dès aujourd’hui des candidatures. Sont éligibles les personnes à jour de leur cotisation SF2A en 2026. Une candidature doit être accompagnée d’une profession de foi d’une page maximum au format pdf.
Les candidatures sont à envoyer au secrétariat de la SF2A (secretariat@sf2a.eu) avec l’objet « Candidature SF2A ». La date limite de réception est fixée au jeudi 9 avril 12h CEST.
Le vote électronique sera mis en place durant la deuxième quinzaine d’avril et les résultats seront annoncés lors de l’Assemblée Générale, pendant les journées annuelles de la SF2A qui se tiendront à Grenoble du 22 au 26 juin 2026.

2. Journées SF2A 2026 – Date limite de soumission d’abstracts
Nous vous rappelons que les journées de la SF2A 2026 se tiendront du 22 au 26 juin 2026 à Grenoble. Toutes les informations concernant les ateliers, les sessions plénières et les différents aspects pratiques sont sur le site web suivant : https://journees.sf2a.eu. Le programme définitif sera communiqué le 5 mai.
Les inscriptions sont ouvertes jusqu’au 2 juin inclus pour une participation en présentiel (y compris pour les étudiants, doctorants, porteurs d’ateliers, orateurs de sessions plénières), et jusqu’au 12 juin inclus pour une participation en ligne. Le tarif réduit est disponible jusqu’au 12 mai inclus.
La date limite pour soumettre un abstract est le 10 avril (inclus).

3. ESO Users community survey
The ESO Users Committee survey will be open between March 1st and March 20th.
The Users Committee (UC) represents ESO’s astronomical community at large and acts as an advisory body to the ESO Director General on matters related to the performance, scientific access, operation and data management facilities to the La Silla Paranal Observatory and ALMA. The 50th annual meeting of the UC is scheduled on 27 and 28 April 2026. During the UC meeting updates from ESO and feedback from the user community are exchanged and openly discussed. Each year one topic is explored in more detail and this year the Special Topic session is dedicated to Time Domain: Target of Opportunity and Rapid Response Mode Observations. The UC welcomes input, opinions and suggestions from the community through direct contact with the UC Members.
The UC designed an anonymous poll URL: https://www.eso.org/extra/surveys/index.php/272512?lang=en to collect further feedback and welcomes input from the community before March 20.

4. Ateliers Défi Transverse du CNRS « Vie dans l’Univers », 20-22 mai, 2026, Lyon (France)
Les 20, 21 et 22 mai prochains, dans le cadre du défi transverse du CNRS « Vie dans l’Univers », nous organisons un atelier de prospective au Mercure Hôtel Château Perrache à Lyon. Il débutera le 20 mai à 14h et se clôturera le 22 mai à 12h.
L’objectif de cet atelier est d’identifier quels sont les chantiers manquant à réaliser pour stimuler des thématiques de recherches interdisciplinaires sous-exploitées autour de ce thème et fédérer la communauté à l’échelle nationale.
Cet atelier comprendra notamment des temps de discussions au sein d’une même discipline suivis d’échanges interdisciplinaires.
Il y a un nombre de places très limité. C’est pourquoi, si vous êtes intéressé(e), nous vous proposons de remplir le formulaire suivant, dès que possible, et ce avant le 31/03/2026.

5. Journée « Camille Flammarion, ce méconnu », 21 mars, 2026, Amphi Abbé Grégroire, CNAM, Paris (France)
Ce colloque international aborde les aspects peu ou mal connus de la vie, de l’œuvre et des réseaux nationaux et internationaux de Camille Flammarion, pour commémorer le centenaire de sa disparition en 1925. Pour encourager les échanges conviviaux entre les orateurs et les participants, les présentations ne seront pas diffusées par vidéo.

6. Ecole AS Numérique, 27-30 avril, 2026, ENS Lyon (France)
Nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer la tenue de la première école de l’Action Spécifique Numérique, entièrement dédiée aux codes HPC GPU pour les fluides astrophysiques.
Cet événement se déroulera du lundi 27 au jeudi 30 avril 2026 au Centre Blaise Pascal de l’ENS Lyon.
Objectifs de l’école
Cette école vise à former les participants à l’utilisation de quatre codes phares dans le domaine :

- Idefix. Intervenant : Geoffroy Lesur
- Shamrock. Intervenants: Timothée David—Cléris
- Smilei. Intervenants: Arnaud Beck, Charles Prouveur
Chaque journée sera consacrée à un code, avec :

L’après-midi : un atelier pratique (TP) de prise en main.

Cette formation s’adresse aux chercheuses, chercheurs, doctorantes, doctorants, post-doctorantes, post-doctorants, ingénieures et ingénieurs travaillant sur des problématiques liées aux fluides astrophysiques et souhaitant utiliser ces outils HPC GPU.

7. Announcement of Interstellar Institute 8, 21 septembre – 8 octobre, 2026, Institut Pascal, Paris-Saclay University (France)
The Interstellar Institute is pleased to announce its 8th session (ii8), which will be held from September 21 to October 9, 2026, at the Institut Pascal of Paris-Saclay University.
This year, the Interstellar Institute will revisit the concept of the Grand Cascade by linking scales—from milli-parsecs to mega-parsecs—and everything in between. ii8 will bring together researchers studying the evolution of diffuse baryons, from the Solar neighborhood to large-scale structures. We will explore the insights that can be gained by connecting these scales in terms of techniques, methods, but mostly physics: turbulence, multi-phase gas, dust, cosmic rays, feedback, disk dynamics, gravity, and magnetic fields.
The Interstellar Institute sessions are not typical conferences. They gather about 85 participants over three weeks (with approximately 50 people present each day) to exchange ideas, work on current projects, and develop new collaborations. Each day’s schedule includes a few short talks in the morning (all participants are welcome to present), followed by work and/or discussion sessions in the afternoon, either individually or in groups of various sizes. The Interstellar Institute is an open structure; everyone with an interest in interstellar or plasma physics—applied to galactic, circumgalactic, intergalactic, or intracluster media—is invited to participate.

8. Journées Scientifiques Galaxies de l’ATCG 2026, 12-14 October, 2026, Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris and Observatoire de Paris, Paris (France)
The French Action Thématique de Cosmologie et Galaxies (ATCG) organizes a national conference on Oct 12-14 2026 at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) and Observatory of Paris (ObsPM) on galaxy formation and evolution, nearby galaxies, and Galactic archeology.
We particularly encourage researchers funded by the ATCG, students, postdocs, and young researchers in France or with ties to the French community to present their work. Registration is free of charge. We have limited funds to support travel to Paris for those giving presentations — please ask when registering if needed.

9. LATMOS Seminar March 3rd – Kei Masunaga – Observations of lunar surface-origin and exospheric ions by the Kaguya Ion Mass Analyzer
On Tuesday March 3rd, Kei Masunaga (Yamagata Univ.) will give a seminar on the « Observations of lunar surface-origin and exospheric ions by the Kaguya Ion Mass Analyzer ». The seminar will take place at 11:30am in LATMOS Guyancourt in room 2202. It will be retransmitted on Webinaire.
Low-energy ions associated with the lunar surface and exosphere provide valuable information on surface composition and volatile-related processes on airless bodies. In this seminar, I will present an overview of ion observations obtained by the Ion Mass Analyzer (IMA) onboard the Kaguya spacecraft, focusing on the spatial and temporal characteristics of lunar-origin ions.
Using approximately one year of time-of-flight (TOF) data, we examined the distributions of multiple ion species commonly observed in the lunar environment, including He⁺, C⁺, O⁺, Na⁺, Al⁺, K⁺, and Ar⁺, primarily in the low-energy range below 300 eV. Assuming that these ions are accelerated by the motional electric field of the solar wind prior to detection, the observed fluxes were mapped to corresponding regions on the lunar surface. The results reveal systematic asymmetries in ion occurrence, with enhanced fluxes on the dawnside compared to the duskside.
In addition to major atomic ions, the TOF spectra occasionally exhibit residual signals at mass-to-charge ratios consistent with water-related ion species. These signals show a tendency to be more frequently observed at high latitudes than at low latitudes, qualitatively consistent with previously reported distributions of lunar water inferred from remote sensing observations. These observations suggest that ion measurements can offer complementary information on the presence and activity of lunar water.
Overall, this seminar shows how ion observations by Kaguya/IMA provide information on various lunar-origin ion species, including water-related ions, and how these results are relevant to future ion measurements, including the Martian Moons Exprolation mission.

10. The Cool Evolved Stars Newsletter is now taking submissions
We are pleased to announce that the first issue of the new Cool Evolved Stars Newsletter (CESN, https://cesn.obspm.fr) is currently open for submissions. This newsletter will cover recent work in cool evolved stars, including red giants, asymptotic giant branch stars, red supergiants and other closely related topics.
Similar to the old AGB newsletter, members of the community are encouraged to submit their recent research work on a regular basis. CESN is replacing the old AGB newsletter as the official publication of the IAU Working Group 103 on Red Giants and Supergiants (Commission G3 Stellar Evolution, Division G Stars). We are happy to accept papers that have been published in a journal or on arXiv.
For this first issue, we are happy to accept any papers published since November 2025. To have your paper included in the first issue, please submit using the form on our website by the 25th of March 2026. Subsequent issues will be sent out on a monthly basis, close to the start of the month, and will include papers submitted by the 25th of the previous month.
We will also accept announcements relevant to the community, such as upcoming conferences, schools or job openings.

11. News from the AtLAST project
The year 2025 was highly productive for the AtLAST project. A major highlight for the French community was the successful AtLAST-Fr-Days workshop organized in Paris in May (https://atlast-fr-days.sciencesconf.org/?lang=en). The momentum continues into 2026, which promises to be an equally exciting year. Here are the latest updates on AtLAST:
27 AtLAST-related White Papers were submitted in December 2025 in response to the ESO Expanding Horizons call (https://next.eso.org/call-for-white-papers/). This clearly demonstrates the broad and transformative impact that AtLAST would have on astrophysics. The French community played a particularly strong role, leading 6 of these white papers and co-authoring another 6. The AtLAST team is organizing the Special Session 26 at EAS 2026, entitled “Planning the Future of Large-Scale (Sub-)mm Astrophysics”. This session will bring together the European (sub-)mm community to foster scientific and technical synergies around AtLAST (https://eas.unige.ch/EAS2026/session.jsp?id=SS26). If you are attending EAS 2026 in Lausanne, we strongly encourage you to participate. The session is scheduled for July 2 (afternoon) and July 3 (morning + lunch session), 2026.
The team of the EU-funded AtLAST2 project will meet in Madrid, Spain, from June 1-3, 2026. In addition, a workshop entitled “Mapping the Submillimeter Universe: Science and Technology for AtLAST” will be held at the Lorentz Center from August 3-7, 2026.
