1. Prix Gemini collaboration pro-am 2026
We have the great pleasure to announce that the 2026 Gemini prize is awarded to the project BSN « Binary Systems of South and North ». This international Pro-Amateur collaboration is submitted by Atila Poro, director of the astronomy department from the Raderon laboratory (Canada), and by Patrick Wullaert, president of the double-star commission from Société Astronomique de France (SAF), and includes 16 professionals and amateurs.
The prize will be awarded during the SF2A symposium that will be held in Grenoble, France on Thursday, the 25th of June 2026 at 2pm in opening of the Gemini Pro-Am workshop (S21) session, followed by a presentation about the project.

2. Appel à candidature pour la direction du LUPM
Le Laboratoire Univers et Particules de Montpellier (LUPM, UMR 5299) est une unité mixte de recherche du CNRS et de l’Université de Montpellier, implantée sur le campus Triolet. Il constitue l’une des composantes du pôle MIPS (Mathématiques, Informatique, Physique et Systèmes), l’un des cinq grands pôles disciplinaires de l’Université de Montpellier.
La candidate ou le candidat devra être une personnalité scientifique de premier plan, reconnue par la communauté internationale.
Une forte motivation pour la direction d’une structure de recherche dynamique et une capacité à inscrire son action dans l’écosystème de recherche montpellierain sont attendues. Une bonne connaissance du système français de l’enseignement supérieur de la recherche est nécessaire, ainsi qu’une expérience avérée en matière de pilotage scientifique (direction de structure, coordination de programmes de recherche ou conduite de grands projets technologiques).
Une aptitude démontrée à représenter une institution aux niveaux local, national et international, est essentielle pour assurer pleinement les fonctions de direction du laboratoire.

3. Appel à candidature 2026 : Prix Irène Joliot Curie
Le ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur de la Recherche et de l’Espace avec le soutien de l’Académie des sciences et de l’Académie des technologies décerneront les prix Irène Joliot Curie d’un montant total de 120 000€.
Le prix Irène Joliot-Curie 2026 comporte trois catégories :
– la catégorie Femme scientifique de l’année (40.000 euros) récompense une femme ayant apporté une contribution exceptionnelle dans le domaine de la recherche publique par l’ouverture de son sujet, l’importance de ses travaux et la reconnaissance dans son domaine scientifique, tant au plan national qu’international ;
– la catégorie Jeune femme scientifique (20.000 euros pour chacune des trois lauréates) met en valeur et encourage trois jeunes femmes qui se distinguent par un parcours et des travaux qui en font des spécialistes de talent dans leur domaine.
– la catégorie Femme, recherche et entreprise (20.000 euros) récompense une femme qui, à partir d’excellence scientifique et technique, se consacre à développer des innovations de forte portée économique et sociale en travaillant au sein d’une entreprise ou en contribuant à la création d’une entreprise.

4. Workshop 5th Astro-COLIBRI multi-messenger astrophysics, 12-16 October, 2026, Paris (France)
We are pleased to announce the 5th Astro-COLIBRI multi-messenger astrophysics workshop, which will take place from October 12 to 16, 2026, at Institut Pascal at the Paris-Saclay University (France).
Building on the success of previous workshops, this international event aims to advance and share a research agenda focused on interconnecting software tools for real-time multi-messenger astronomy. It serves as a platform for leading scientists and early-career researchers to engage in discussions, fostering collaboration between developers and users with diverse expertise. By bringing together key contributors in software development and application, the workshop strengthens community ties and supports progress in the rapidly evolving field of real-time multi-messenger astronomy.
Topics to be discussed at the workshop include:
– Physics of transient phenomena and
– Multi-messenger observations of transients
– Alert & follow-up platforms
The first two days of the workshop will consist of invited and contributed talks to discuss the current issues, challenges and opportunities in real-time multimessenger astronomy. Following these introductions, we will work together in small teams in a Hackathon-like event brainstorming ideas and implementing prototypes of new tools and features.
We do not require a registration fee for the workshop and will be able to cover local expenses (lunch, coffee breaks, social dinner, etc.). Applications are open now and will close on June 30. Places are limited and will be allocated by the Scientific Organizing Committee after the closing of the registration. 6. Astro-CC Project Training Event (Virtual Observatory School) [Extended Deadline]
The Astro-CC Pilot Project is organizing a hands-on training school on the Virtual Observatory (VO), hosted at the Strasbourg Astronomical Observatory (Strasbourg, France), from Tuesday 29 September to Thursday 1 October 2026.
The Virtual Observatory allows to explore and combine the rapidly growing volume of data from ground-based and space missions. This school will introduce participants to VO tools, standards, and services, enabling efficient scientific workflows across heterogeneous datasets.
Through guided tutorials, participants will gain experience in:
– discovering and accessing data from major VO services,
– querying and cross-matching catalogues,
– working with spatial and temporal coverage,
– analyzing and visualizing results interactively.
The hands-on sessions will be based on scientific use cases, including exploration of Gaia DR3 data, planetary surface composition, and time-domain phenomena such as Gamma-Ray Bursts…
Dedicated time will be allocated for participants to work on their own scientific projects, with tutors providing guidance to help them apply the newly acquired methods and tools.
To ensure a high level of interaction, participation is limited to 30 attendees. Priority will be given to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
There is no registration fee, and accommodation will be covered for accepted participants.
