1. CNES : Appel à propositions de sujets de recherche doctorale et postdoctorale – Campagne 2027
Le CNES attribue chaque année des allocations de recherche doctorales et postdoctorales à des jeunes étudiant(e)s intéressé(e)s par les activités spatiales.
Si votre laboratoire souhaite accueillir un(e) allocataire de recherche en 2027, nous invitons vos équipes de recherche à soumettre leurs propositions de sujets en anglais :
– sujets de thèse pour tous les domaines soutenus par le CNES ;
– sujets de postdoctorat dans le domaine des technologies des systèmes de transport spatial (fusées, propulsion, fluides, etc.) – ces sujets d’étude postdoctorale ne sont pas libres et font l’objet d’une présélection.
L’appel à sujet est ouvert du 15 septembre au 16 octobre 2026 (23h59)

2. Shaping the Future of IAU Conference Proceedings
The proliferation of rapid-sharing platforms and the comprehensive indexing of the NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) have fundamentally changed how we share astronomical research. Consequently, a long-standing debate has resurfaced: Are formal conference proceedings still a valuable use of our community’s time and resources?
To answer this, the International Astronomical Union is convening a Task Force on the Utility of IAU Symposia/Focus Meeting Proceedings. Our goal is to determine if IAU Proceedings still provide unique scientific and career value and, based on the findings, suggest possible revisions or alternatives.
For this, we need your input. Whether you are a senior researcher who has published dozens of papers or a graduate student wondering if that 4-page proceeding is worth the effort, your perspective is vital.

The survey will take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete, and is open to the broader astronomical community. Respondents do not need to be IAU Members to participate.
Your feedback will directly inform the Task Force recommendations to the IAU Executive Committee, and will help shape future policies on whether traditional proceedings will remain a requirement for IAU Symposia and Focus Meetings, or whether alternatives (e.g., Zenodo collections, video archives) should be considered.
The survey will remain open until October 16. All responses are anonymous.

5. Des nouvelles de newAthena (Athena)
newAthena (précédemment Athena) est un observatoire spatial en rayons X, doté d’un grand miroir (d’une surface efficace de 1 mètre carré à 1 keV), d’une focale de 12 mètres et de deux instruments : un imageur grand champ (WFI, MPE/DLR) et un spectromètre à haute résolution (X-IFU, IRAP/CNES). X-IFU est développé sous la responsabilité scientifique de l’IRAP et la maîtrise d’œuvre du CNES.
newAthena sera la troisième grande mission du programme Cosmic Vision de l’Agence spatiale européenne, après JUICE et LISA. La phase préparatoire à l’adoption de newAthena vient de démarrer. Ainsi appelée, la Mission Adoption Review couvrira la période de septembre 2026 à mars 2027. Cette revue couvre tous les aspects de la mission, aussi bien techniques que programmatiques : elle est placée sous la responsabilité conjointe de la directrice scientifique et de l’inspecteur général de l’ESA. Elle s’appuie sur deux études industrielles menées par Airbus Defence and Space (Friedrichshafen/Toulouse) et Thales Alenia Space (Cannes). Une revue dédiée au miroir est conduite avec la société Cosine.
En parallèle, se tiendra la revue des exigences système du X-IFU (d’octobre à décembre 2026), puis la même revue pour le WFI au début de l’année 2027. Les activités de démonstration des technologies critiques, au niveau des instruments et du miroir, ont permis de consolider les exigences de performance au niveau de la mission tout en réduisant les risques.
Dans le planning actuel, l’adoption définitive de la mission devrait avoir lieu lors de la réunion du Science Program Committee de l’ESA en juin 2027. C’est le prérequis pour qu’un appel d’offres soit lancé par l’ESA afin de déterminer l’industriel en charge de la fabrication du satellite. Le kick-off des activités industrielles est ensuite prévu pour mi-2028. S’ensuivra la phase d’implémentation de la mission, sur une période d’environ 10 ans, pour un lancement par Ariane 6 à la fin de la prochaine décennie.
Concernant le X-IFU, l’ensemble des contributions françaises requises pour le développement complet de l’instrument et de son segment sol sont en cours de réévaluation. Elles seront examinées lors d’un comité inter-organismes piloté par le CNES (d’ici fin 2026), avant d’être présentées au Conseil d’administration du CNES en mars 2027.
Après de longues années d’études, nous sommes désormais dans la dernière ligne droite pour faire de newAthena la mission que la communauté scientifique attend.

6. AISHI Workshop on Machine Learning for Hyperspectral Imaging, October 6-7, 2026, Lyon (France)
The is the second announcement of the upcoming AISHI Workshop on Machine Learning for Hyperspectral Imaging on Oct 6 & 7 2026.
As a follow-up of the DeepLearning3D Workshop held in ENS Lyon in 2024, this event will bring together researchers working at the intersection of machine learning and hyperspectral imaging, with the goal of fostering exchanges between different communities and discussing recent advances, challenges, and applications.
The workshop will feature invited talks and contributed talks/posters covering topics including machine learning approaches for hyperspectral data processing, representation learning, source detection and characterization, as well as applications across scientific domains such as Earth observation, astronomy & astrophysics, and life sciences.
When: Oct 6 & 7 2026.
Where: The workshop will take at I-FACTORY, University of Lyon (Campus de la Doua).
Registration is free but mandatory, and registration is open till max capacity is reached (40).

8. Colloque national Dark Energy, November 2-4, 2026, Paris (France)

Comme les années précédentes, au-delà d’un certain nombre de thématiques identifiées qui font l’objet de présentations, un temps significatif sera consacré à des présentations sur les travaux récents pour lesquels vous êtes invités à soumettre vos propositions.
L’appel à contributions est ouvert jusqu’au 04 octobre.
Les missions pourront être financées, en particulier pour les participants effectuant une présentation et pour les jeunes chercheurs (prendre contact avec le CO).
Le colloque est gratuit. La participation à ces journées est ouverte à tous, mais l’inscription sur le site est obligatoire (avant le 18 octobre). La capacité d’accueil est de 120 personnes en présentiel.

We are pleased to announce that the third webinar of the ELT-France Webinar Series will take place online on September 22nd, 2026 at 14:30 (CEST). The webinar will present the latest news on the ANDES spectrograph for the ELT and will be given by Isabelle Boisse (LAM) and Andrea Chiavassa (OCA).
Abstract : ANDES (ArmazoNes high Dispersion Echelle Spectrograph) is the second-generation high-resolution spectrograph for the ELT. This versatile instrument will provide simultaneous spectral coverage from 0.35 to 2.4 μm at a resolving power of R = 100,000 in seeing-limited mode, complemented by an IFU-SCAO mode and a coronagraphic mode. ANDES will address a number of major scientific questions, including the characterization of the atmospheres of rocky exoplanets through transmission and reflected-light spectroscopy, as well as measurements of the fundamental constants of physics. Its scientific applications span a broad range of topics, including the characterization of cool stars, the study of protoplanetary disks, the search for low-mass black holes, measurements of deuterium abundances, and constraints on variations in the temperature of the Cosmic Microwave Background. We will present the instrument and its Consortium, its observing modes and capabilities, its main scientific priorities, and the current development timeline. We will also highlight the French scientific and technical contributions to ANDES, together with the initiatives being implemented to build and structure a strong national collaboration in preparation for the next stages of the instrument’s development.
