1. NenuFAR Open Time Cycle #4: call for proposals

Located on the site of the Nançay Radio Observatory in France, NenuFAR is a very large low-frequency radio telescope, which is among the most powerful in the world in its frequency range between 10 MHz and 85 MHz. This range corresponds to the lowest spectral “window” in which we can observe with radio telescopes from the surface of the Earth.

We invite the worldwide community to apply for observing with NenuFAR during Cycle #4, that runs from 1 June 2024 to 30 November 2024.

2. ISSI Call for International Team Proposals

The International Space Science Institute (ISSI) in Bern (Switzerland) and ISSI-BJ in Beijing (China) invite proposals for establishing International Teams to conduct, at their respective meeting facilities, research in the Space and Earth Sciences.

To be eligible, research projects must involve the interdisciplinary analysis and evaluation of space mission data. They may also draw on complementary ground-based data and/or theoretical modelling where this adds scientific value.

This call is open to all scientists, regardless of nationality or institutional affiliation, who are actively involved in any of the following research fields:

Space Sciences: Astrobiology, Astrophysics and Cosmology, Fundamental Physics in Space, Magnetospheric and Space Plasma Physics, Planetary Sciences, Solar and Heliospheric Physics, and Solar-Terrestrial Sciences.
Earth Sciences using space data. This includes understanding and modelling Earth system processes, as well as climate change projections.

The deadline for proposals is March 14, 2024

3. Lancement du Prix Jeunes Talents France L’Oréal-UNESCO 2024 Pour les Femmes et la Science

La Fondation L’Oréal, en partenariat avec la Commission nationale française pour l’UNESCO et l’Académie des sciences, est heureuse de vous annoncer l’ouverture de l’appel à candidature de l’édition 2024 du programme Jeunes Talents France L’Oréal-UNESCO Pour les Femmes et la Science.

Créé en 2007, ce programme a pour objet de révéler et récompenser de jeunes chercheuses talentueuses. A ce jour, 405 jeunes femmes ont bénéficié d’une dotation L’Oréal-UNESCO Pour les Femmes et la Science.

Cette année encore, la Fondation L’Oréal remettra 35 dotations en France, dont 5 au minimum seront dédiées à des chercheuses effectuant leurs travaux de recherche dans les Outre-mer.

4. Gilles Chabrier Médaille d’or de la Royal Astronomical Society

I am extremely pleased to announce that Gilles Chabrier has been awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society, the Society’s highest award since 1824. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding fundamental results obtained throughout his career, on the equation of state of dense matter, brown dwarfs, planets, low-mass stars, white dwarfs and neutron stars, highlighting Chabrier’s now-standard Initial Mass Function.

5. 1st public release of the Cesam2k20 stellar evolution code

The 1st public release of the Cesam2k20 stellar evolution code is now available at this address: https://git.ias.u-psud.fr/joao.marques/cesam2k20_releases.

The Cesam2k20 stellar evolution code (https://www.ias.u-psud.fr/cesam2k20) is dedicated to modelling the evolution of the internal structure of low- and intermediate-mass stars. Its development was initiated by P. Morel (OCA) in 1995, and it has enjoyed sustained activity for almost 30 years, making it a mature code that implements a wide variety of physical processes. The original code was modernised under the name CESAM2k in Frotran 90 by B. Pichon, P. Morel and many others. Angular momentum transport was added by J. P. C. Marques in the CESTAM version. The most modern version, Cesam2k20, incorporates all the developments made since then. This code has been validated several times by comparisons with other stellar evolution codes (ESTA-CoRoT model comparison 2006-2010, Stellar Evolution Challenge 2005-2006, Aarhus Red Giant Working Group 2014-2020). Cesam2k20 is also heavily involved in preparations for the PLATO mission, and was recently selected to calculate the initial grid of stellar models for this mission, following further comparisons with other stellar evolution codes (CLES, GARSTEC).

6. Journées ASOV et semi hackathon, 18-20 mars 2024, Strasbourg (France)

Cette année, l’ASOV fête ses 20 ans. C’est aussi les 10 ans des journées semi-hackathon qui rassemblent les développeurs des services de diffusion de données.

Pour l’occasion, les journées ASOV et semi hackathon 2024 se tiendront les 18, 19 et 20 mars à l’observatoire de Strasbourg avec entre autres :

7. Workshop GRAVITY+ Impact on star and planet formation, June 11-12-13, 2024, Grenoble (France), 2nd annoucement

We organize a 3-day workshop in Grenoble on June 11-13, 2024, bringing together a community of experts in observing and modeling protoplanetary disks as well as in star and planet formation, to elaborate scientific programs to be jointly carried out with GRAVITY+ and other instruments (e.g., VLT, ALMA, ELT, JWST, CFHT). We aim at fostering discussions on possible strategies that will ensure, through coordinated European and/or national initiatives, the funding and sustainability of the resources needed for the in-depth scientific exploitation of multi-instrument campaigns.

8. Session des groupes de travail du Comité exécutif de l’AIU sur les femmes en astronomie pour IAU GA 2024, 6-15 Août 2024, Cape Town, Afrique du Sud

Le groupe de travail sur les Femmes en Astronomie du Comité exécutif de l’AIU a le plaisir d’annoncer la tenue d’une réunion pendant la XXXIIe Assemblée générale de l’AIU 2024 qui se tiendra à Capte Town, Afrique du Sud. Cette année, le groupe de travail sur les Femmes en Astronomie du Comité exécutif de l’AIU a le plaisir d’annoncer sa collaboration avec la Société astronomique africaine et le Réseau africain des femmes en astronomie (AfNWA) pour organiser la session sur le thème des Femmes en Astronomie lors de la XXXIIe Assemblée générale de l’AIU 2024.

THEMES :
Session 1- Statistiques, équilibre des genres et effet de Leaky pipeline dans l’astronomie, problèmes (Santé, finances), conséquences (sécurité de l’emploi et retraite) et carrière.
Session 2- Mega Projets (SKA, MeerKAT, AVN, SALT, HESS, CTA, AMT) en Afrique du Sud et politiques d’équilibre des genres
Session 3- Sensibilisation et efforts de l’AIU, de l’AfNWA et des institutions du monde entier
Session 4- Opportunités, efforts des agences de financement, options de carrière en astronomie

Date limite : inscription (early) et soumission des résumés – 01 mars 2024
