1. Renouvellement du conseil de la SF2A – Date limite 12 avril 2024, 12h CEST
La Société Française d’Astronomie et d’Astrophysique (SF2A), association loi 1901, a pour but de contribuer au développement et au rayonnement de l’astronomie en France et d’y associer l’ensemble des spécialistes d’astronomie concourant à ce même objectif. Sous le haut patronage de l’Académie des Sciences, elle coordonne les actions et assure la représentation de la communauté française dans l’Union Astronomique Internationale (IAU) ainsi qu’à l’European Astronomical Society (EAS). La SF2A est administrée par un Conseil d’Administration de 12 membres élus pour 4 ans par l’Assemblée Générale au scrutin secret, uninominal, majoritaire à un tour.
La moitié du conseil de la SF2A doit être renouvelée en 2024, soit six personnes. Les membres du Conseil dont le mandat arrive à terme sont : Arnaud Siebert (secrétaire), Mamadou N’Diaye (Trésorier adjoint), Danielle Briot, Eric Lagadec, Frédéric Pitout (Responsable formation), Johan Richard (Responsable Réseaux sociaux).
Nous sollicitons dès aujourd’hui des candidatures. Sont éligibles les personnes à jour de leur cotisation SF2A en 2024. Une candidature doit être accompagnée d’une profession de foi d’une page maximum au format pdf.
Les candidatures sont à envoyer au secrétariat de la SF2A (secretariat@sf2a.eu) avec l’objet « Candidature SF2A ». La date limite de réception est fixée au vendredi 12 avril midi.
Le vote électronique sera mis en place durant la deuxième quinzaine d’avril et les résultats seront annoncés lors de l’Assemblée Générale, pendant les journées annuelles de la SF2A qui se tiendront à Marseille du 4 au 7 juin 2024.

2. Prix Ciel & Espace 2024
La SF2A est associée chaque année à la remise du prix Ciel et Espace du livre d’Astronomie ainsi que du prix André Brahic du livre d’Astronomie Jeunesse.
Le Prix du livre Ciel & Espace 2024 a été attribué à Miho Janvier pour « Les secrets du Soleil » et le prix André Brahic du livre d’astronomie jeunesse à Norédine Benazdia et Léonie Kœlsch pour « Dans la peau d’une astronaute ».

4. CPJ SKA / Big data / IA à l’université de Strasbourg / ObAS
L’université de Strasbourg s’apprête à ouvrir une Chaire de Professeur Junior (CPJ) sur un projet intitulé « Grandes masses de données à l’ère de SKA », qui sera mené au sein de l’Observatoire astronomique de Strasbourg (ObAS).
Le profil recherché est celui d’une personne de haut niveau, ayant déjà une forte expérience internationale autour du big data, en particulier en astronomie. Elle sera amenée à appliquer à l’exploitation des cubes de données générés par SKA les développements effectués dans le domaine des mathématiques et de l’informatique autour du big data et/ou de l’intelligence artificielle.
Le service d’enseignement portera, entre autres, sur la science des données, et pourra être effectué au sein du parcours de master « Astrophysics and data science » géré par l’ObAS et/ou dans d’autres composantes de l’université avec lesquelles l’observatoire astronomique entretient des relations étroites.
Durant la durée de la CPJ, et avant la titularisation comme professeur, la ou le titulaire bénéficiera d’un accompagnement financier de l’ANR.

5. First ESA Directorate of Science Townhall, May 28, online
The first ESA Directorate of Science Townhall will be held virtually on 28 May, from 9:30 to 12:30 CEST.
The townhall will offer the opportunity for direct exchange between the Directorate’s executive and the broader scientific community, including current and future users of ESA’s missions. It will allow to introduce the long-term vision of ESA’s Science programme and provide a channel to listen to the views, ambitions, and requests from the scientific community
To do so, the townhall will provide an introduction to ESA’s Science Programme, which is co-developed in a bottom-up approach from within the member states. This will be followed by discussions of the advisory structure of the Directorate, the status of the Cosmic Vision programme, including LISA and NewAthena, and the status of and plans for Voyage 2050. We will further discuss ways in which community members of different career levels can benefit from and engage with the Science Programme, with ample time for Q&A and feedback from the community with myself, my leadership team, and key members of the advisory structure.
The event will be held fully online to ensure maximum accessibility. More information, including a possibility to register, will follow in the next weeks.

6. Summer school, Observing with Adaptive Optics, September 29th – October 4th, 2024, Observatoire Haute Provence (France)
We are organizing a (late) summer school – Observing with Adaptive Optics – from 29th September to 4th October 2024, at Observatoire Haute Provence.

Among others, the school will include observations with PAPYRUS at the 1.52m telescope.
The school is funded by the ORP network (https://www.orp-h2020.eu/) and apart from travel to/from Marseille, all other expenses will be covered by the organization.

7. Ecole Evry Schatzman, Les disques et la formation planétaire à l’ère JWST et ELT, 30 septembre – 4 octobre, 2024, Roscoff (France)
We are pleased to announce the opening of registrations for the 2024 edition of the Evry Schatzman School devoted to « Disks and planetary formation in the era of JWST and ELT ».
EES2024 is a CNRS thematic school for continuing education open to any researcher (early stage ot experienced) wishing to learn about proto-planetary disks and planetary formation, and/or with a view to preparing observing programs on the major existing or future instruments in the discipline, notably the JWST and the first-generation ELT instruments.
The school will take place from September 30 to October 4, 2024 at the CNRS biological station in Roscoff, Brittany.
Registration is open from April 5, 2024 to June 24, 2024. The number of participants is limited to 40.

8. Journées Scientifiques PNCG “Galaxies”, 7-9 octobre, 2024, Lyon (France)
The French Programme National de Cosmologie et Galaxies (PNCG, https://pncg.lam.fr/) organizes a national conference on Oct 7-9 2024 in Lyon on galaxy formation and evolution, nearby galaxies, and Galactic archeology.
We particularly encourage researchers funded by the PNCG, students, postdocs, and young researchers in France or with ties to the French community to present their work. Registration is free of charge. We have limited funds to support travel to Lyon — please ask when registering if needed.

Dans le Zoom, J. Lequeux (OP) résume les derniers progrès qui ont été faits dans la compréhension de la formation des étoiles et de leur évolution. Dans la rubrique Actualités F. Mottez (OP) révèle que la supernova SN1987A a laissé place à une étoile à neutrons. F. Deschamps (IESA, Taipei, Taiwan) montre la présence d’azote 15 dans l’atmosphère d’une naine brune et l’influence de l’hydrogène moléculaire comme source d’énergie pour certaines formes de vie primitive sur Terre. J. Borg (IAS) explique la difficile analyse des poussières de l’astéroïde Bennu. T. Encrenaz révèle l’existence d’un cinquième océan interne dans le Système solaire extérieur et M. Spite (OP) la découverte d’un nouveau courant d’étoiles. Dans la rubrique Spatial, J. Bocherens (SAF) commente le retour manqué de l’Amérique sur la surface de la Lune alors que F. Mottez présente les projets phares de l’Europe.
Dans la rubrique Observations et travaux A. Sallez (SAF) présente l’occultation de Bételgeuse par Leona à laquelle ont participé de nombreux amateurs. G.Raffaitin et E. Evrard (SAF) nous invitent à observer la constellation du Lion et la galaxie M101 et A. Sallez présente une image à très longue pose de la nébuleuse de la Tarentule.
