Les journées de la SF2A 2025 se tiendront du 1 au 4 juillet 2025 à Toulouse. Bonne nouvelle : les inscriptions sont ouvertes !
Vous trouverez les informations concernant les ateliers, les sessions plénières et les différents aspects pratiques sur le site web suivant : https://journees.sf2a.eu.

Les inscriptions sont ouvertes jusqu’au 10 juin inclus pour une participation en présentiel (y compris pour les étudiants, doctorants, porteurs d’ateliers, orateurs de sessions plénières), et jusqu’au 20 juin inclus pour une participation en ligne. Le tarif réduit est disponible jusqu’au 20 mai inclus.

La soumission des abstracts pour les ateliers est ouverte jusqu’au 25 avril inclus. Le programme définitif sera communiqué le 13 mai.

2. Journées SF2A 2025 – subvention jeunes chercheurs

Les Journées SF2A 2025 se tiendront du 1 au 4 juillet 2025 à Toulouse.

Vous êtes adhérent(e) SF2A et post-doc ou doctorant(e) à l’étranger et vous ne pourriez participer aux Journées SF2A sans un petit coup de pouce financier ?

Dans ce cas, la SF2A peut vous allouer une subvention. Si vous êtes intéressé(e), merci d’envoyer avant le 20 mars à la Présidente de la SF2A (presidence@sf2a.eu), avec copie au secrétariat (secretariat@sf2a.eu), une lettre de « motivation » concise accompagnée d’un court CV. Dites-nous à quelles sessions des Journées vous souhaitez participer, et la somme réaliste dont vous auriez besoin (inscription + hébergement + transports) pour participer ou compléter un financement déjà partiellement acquis. Le format de ces documents est libre.

Si votre demande est acceptée, la SF2A vous remboursera les frais (ajustés aux montant réels), sur facture après la conférence. Une demande d’avance sera toutefois possible.

3. Appel à candidatures pour devenir Représentant National à l’E-ROAD

Le Bureau régional européen de l’astronomie pour le développement de l’UAI (E-ROAD, https://astro4dev.eu/ ) est une initiative conjointe de l’École de recherche en astronomie des Pays-Bas (NOVA) et de la Société Européenne d’Astronomie (EAS).

Ses objectifs stratégiques sont les suivants :

• Stimuler le développement mondial grâce à l’astronomie en favorisant la création d’une communauté dynamique et en mobilisant des ressources à travers l’Europe pour soutenir des actions pertinentes à l’échelle mondiale (aligné sur l’objectif 3 du plan stratégique 2020-2030 de l’UAI, https://www.iau.org/administration/about/strategic_plan/ ).

• Développer des projets éducatifs et de sensibilisation promouvant la citoyenneté mondiale, une culture de la paix et la durabilité (ODD4, ODD16, ODD6, ODD13).

• Renforcer les capacités et l’innovation dans les pays en développement en stimulant la recherche astronomique au profit des communautés locales (ODD9.b).


La SF2A a été sollicitée pour nominer ses Représentants Nationaux à l’E-ROAD. Nous lançons donc un appel à volontaires !

Responsabilités des Représentants Nationaux E-ROAD (NER) :
Les NER joueront un rôle essentiel dans l’identification et la prise en compte des besoins locaux en matière de développement lié à l’astronomie. Ils serviront de point de contact principal pour toutes les activités E-ROAD dans leur pays.
Ils se réuniront régulièrement en ligne et seront chargés des missions suivantes :

• Promouvoir les objectifs stratégiques d’E-ROAD à l’échelle nationale.

• Identifier et suivre les opportunités de financement pour les initiatives E-ROAD.

• Soutenir la mise en œuvre de projets alignés sur les Objectifs de Développement Durable des Nations Unies.


Profil recherché :
Pour ces postes, l’E-ROAD recherche des personnes passionnées et engagées :

• Investies dans la mission du Programme de l’astronomie pour le développement de l’UAI, tant à l’échelle nationale que mondiale.

• Bien connectées au sein de la communauté astronomique nationale.

• Proactives dans la recherche d’opportunités de partenariats avec des organisations, des sponsors et des programmes nationaux.

• Intéressées par la science pour le développement, notamment en lien avec l’éducation, le climat, la diversité et l’inclusion.

• Maîtrisant leur langue nationale.

4. Call for Proposals – CCI International Time Programme 2025-2026 for the Canary Islands Observatories

The 2025-2026 Call for Proposals for the International Time Programme of the Comité Científico Internacional (International Scientific Committee of the Canary Islands Observatories) , as well as the proposal form and the CCI ITP Code of Conduct can be found on the CCI webpage, https://www.iac.es/en/observatorios-de-canarias/international-scientific-committee

The call includes opportunities to use the GTC, WHT, TNG, NOT, LT, STELLA and Mercator telescopes, and is open to astronomers from all countries – see call for details on time available and composition of proposing teams.

Le télescope solaire THEMIS (http://www.themis.iac.es) disposera en 2025 d’une campagne ouverte aux communautés française et espagnole d’une durée de 100 jours environ, prévue entre le 1 avril et le 31 Juillet 2025 approximativement.

Les informations sur l’instrumentation disponible en 2025 et sur la procédure de soumission sont actualisées sur la page web dédiée à la campagne 2025 (lien ci-après). Soumettre une demande d’observation consiste à envoyer, avant le 17 février 2025, un e-mail à themis.team@themis.iac.es accompagné de la proposition de programme d’observation. 6. CFHT Community Survey – information and Q&A session Feb. 27

CFHT has initiated a process to design, implement, and carry out an ambitious scientific community-led survey that could be started as early as 2027 and last up to 5 years. The intent is to design a survey (or surveys) that will be carried out with MegaCam and/or Wenaokeao (co-mount of ESPaDOnS and SPIRou), serve the widest possible community of CFHT users, and have a significant scientific impact and/or legacy value. The final survey will be designed by members of the CFHT community and may combine 2 or more proposals or scientific themes.

Interested individuals and teams are invited to attend a Zoom meeting/webinar on Thursday, February 27, at 7 am HST. After a short presentation about CFHT, its instruments and modes of operation, and the context for this Community Survey, members of the CFHT SAC and CFHT staff will be available to answer questions.

7. Opportunity to join the NewAthena Science Community (NASC)

We’d like to draw your attention to the opportunity to join the NewAthena Science Community (NASC), the ensemble of scientists supporting the development of the science case of the mission.

Membership is open till the 16th of March to scientists at any career stage, including students, post-doctoral researchers, faculty, research staff, retirees, and those in private enterprises involved in the NewAthena Study. No formal prerequisites are required. Please fill out registration at this webpage.

9. CFHT UM2025 – Limited financial assistance available and ride-share/roommate tools coming soon

The Local Organizing Committee invites individuals registered to the CFHT Users’ Meeting (UM2025) or interested in registering for UM2025 to request financial assistance if their participation depends on receiving funds to cover part of their expenses.

If a request is granted, the LOC will provide financial assistance based on a participant’s location; there is no minimum distance requirement. The LOC cannot guarantee that all participants who make a request will receive assistance. The assistance will be in the form of an EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) provided at or after the UM.

Students and post-docs are especially encouraged to take advantage of this offer.

In addition, we will provide tools (Google Sheets) to allow participants to share a car ride, find a roommate, or find a housemate. If you would like to get the link for those tools, please make a request to um2025loc@cfht.hawaii.edu

10. Atelier ELT système solaire, 16-17 juin, 2025, LAM-Marseille (France)

L’ELT (Extremely Large Telescope) est actuellement en phase de construction et devrait être opérationnel à partir de 2028. La France est impliquée dans les instruments de première génération (MICADO, HARMONI, METIS, MORFEO) et de deuxième génération (ANDES et MOSAIC), que ce soit sur le plan technique ou scientifique. L’intérêt de la communauté française de planétologie pour l’ELT est grand, mais nous devons nous organiser pour maximiser le retour scientifique. L’objet de cet atelier est d’échanger autour de cette thématique, afin d’informer, de coordonner, et de préparer au mieux notre communauté de planétologues à l’arrivée de ELT.

L’atelier est financé par le PNP et sera gratuit. Il se tiendra les 16 juin (après-midi) et 17 juin (matin) au Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille. We are excited to announce a Special Session on « The magnetised Universe from galaxies to cosmic voids in the SKA & CTA era » at the European Astronomical Society (EAS) 2025 meeting in Cork, Ireland.

We are pleased to solicit abstracts for the Special Session 14 (SS14) of the European Astronomical Society (EAS) 2025 annual meeting in Cork (Ireland), titled:

“Gamma-Ray Bursts and Fast X-ray Transients in the SVOM and Einstein Probe Era”.

SS14 will be held during the EAS 2025 meeting in Cork (Ireland), which will take place in the week June 23 to 27.

Rationale:

2024 has witnessed the launch of Einstein Probe and SVOM, two missions monitoring the high-energy sky. Their sensitivity to X-rays has opened a new window in the transient Universe, and led to the discovery of new populations of events. With samples of fast X-ray transients (FXTs) and gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) being built month after month, we want to take inventory of the detected populations, analyze the connections between the various classes of objects, explore their multi-wavelength properties, and test theoretical models against the amassed evidence. Sensitivity in the X-ray band holds the potential for these missions to detect high-redshift GRBs, whose emission is redshifted, which can be used to probe star-forming environments in the distant Universe. This will in turn inform the design of future facilities, such as THESEUS, under study for ESA.

Organization:

SS14 will consist of three blocks:
block 1: Results from SVOM and Einstein Probe;
block 2: Fast X-ray transients not detected in gamma-rays;
block 3: GRBs at high-redshift and related future missions.

Each block will contain one or more invited talks (list still to be confirmed). While the meeting will be in a fully hybrid format, we encourage oral presentations to be delivered in person. Contributions not selected for an oral presentation will have a chance to be presented as ePosters.

This is the first announcement of the EAS 2025 Special Session SS21: Stellar magnetism and its effects on the planetary environment: from solar-like stars to ultracool dwarfs (https://eas.unige.ch/EAS2025/session.jsp?id=SS21) which will be held in Cork (Ireland) as part of the EAS Annual Meeting from 23 to 27 June 2025.

Aims and scope

The study of stellar magnetic activity has recently become increasingly vital due to its significant implications for the habitability of exoplanets. This session aims to explore the latest advancements in the theory and observation of solar and stellar magnetism, bringing together researchers in the fields of astrophysics and exoplanetary science—including experts both on theory and observation. Key topics include the operation of stellar dynamos, the impact of magnetic activity on stellar environments, and the influence of stellar magnetism on nearby exoplanets.

Discussions will address critical questions such as:

What are the observable indicators of dynamo processes and what observing strategies are needed to enhance the study of stellar dynamos across different stages of stellar evolution?

To what extent can we use the solar paradigm, i.e., use the Sun to model other stars?

In what ways does stellar magnetism affect the habitability of nearby exoplanets?

What are the fundamental conditions for planetary habitability concerning stellar magnetic activity?

Our goal is therefore to create an atmosphere of lively discourse for a better understanding of the magnetic dynamo which may have been a prerequisite for the appearance of life on Earth as well.

Un grand merci aux quelques bénévoles du Clea et à l’équipe d’ADS qui ont rendu l’intégration possible, et évidemment à toutes celles et ceux qui, depuis plus de 45 ans, alimentent la revue !

15. En mémoire du Professeur Wojciech Dziembowski

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès du Professeur Wojciech Dziembowski, éminent scientifique et pionnier dans l’étude des pulsations solaires et stellaires. Son travail visionnaire et ses contributions majeures à l’hélio et l’astérosismologie ont marqué durablement la communauté scientifique.

Né le 14 janvier 1940 à Varsovie, il a obtenu son diplôme à l’Université Jagellonne de Cracovie et a soutenu sa thèse de doctorat en 1967 à l’Université de Varsovie. Il a reçu le titre de Professeur en 1988 et s’est distingué par ses recherches révolutionnaires sur la pulsation stellaire et la structure interne des étoiles.

Wojtek, comme nous l’appelions, ses amis et collègues, a développé l’un des premiers codes non adiabatiques pour l’étude des oscillations stellaires, contribuant significativement à l’interprétation des pulsations des étoiles de type B. Il a joué un rôle clé dans le développement de l’hélio et de l’astérosismologie, laissant une empreinte indélébile sur ces disciplines.

Tout au long de sa carrière, il a été honoré par de nombreuses distinctions prestigieuses, notamment la Médaille de l’Adion de l’Observatoire de Nice OCA 2000, la Médaille d’or de l’Université de Wrocław (2005), un doctorat honorifique de l’Université de Zielona Góra (2014), et la Médaille Bohdan Paczynski de la Société Astronomique Polonaise (2019). Il était également membre titulaire de l’Académie Polonaise des Sciences et membre correspondant de l’Académie Polonaise des Arts et des Sciences.

Wojtek nous a quittés le 10 février 2025, mais son héritage scientifique et humain perdurera. Il restera dans nos mémoires comme un chercheur d’exception, un collaborateur précieux, un mentor inspirant et un ami cher.
