5. ANDES France days, 24-25 November 2026, Montpellier (France)
The second ANDES France workshop aims to bring together the French community to prepare our contribution to the scientific exploitation of the ELT spectrograph ANDES from 2034-2035 onwards, both within the GTO and beyond.
ANDES is a versatile instrument that can deliver key results in the characterisation of exoplanets, theoretical physics, cosmology, and stellar physics. It has the potential to address two ambitious questions: the detection of biosignatures in Earth-like exoplanets and the direct detection of cosmic re-acceleration. It also serves a wide range of scientific interests, including extragalactic transients, the characterisation of cool stars, studies of deuterium abundances, the search for and characterisation of primordial stars, measurements of variations in the CMB temperature, investigations of protoplanetary discs, the search for low-mass black holes, and studies of the reionisation of the Universe.
The ANDES France days 2026 will be held in a hybrid format, combining in-person attendance and videoconferencing. Registration is free of charge and limited to 60 participants attending on site. The deadline for in-person registration is set for 18 November 2026. Participants are invited to submit proposals for oral presentations until 06 November 2026.

8. Webinar ELT-France « MOSAIC : the multi-object spectrograph for the ELT », October 27th 2026
We are pleased to announce that the fourth webinar of the ELT-France Webinar Series will take place online on October 27th, 2026 at 14:30 (CET). The webinar will present the latest news on the MOSAIC multi-object spectrograph for the ELT and will be given by Roser Pelló (PI – LAM) and Mathieu Puech (co-PI – LUX & UNIDIA).
Abstract : MOSAIC is a fiber-fed, multi-object spectrograph designed for ESO’s 39-meter Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). It offers unique capabilities for a telescope of this scale in terms of multiplexing, wavelength coverage, and spectral resolution. MOSAIC covers both the visible (0.39-0.95 microns) and near-infrared (0.95-1.8 microns) ranges, providing medium (R ~ 4000-5000) and high (R ~ 18,000) spectral resolution, respectively; it will be installed on one of the ELT’s Nasmyth platforms. It has been designed to cover the largest possible area (~ 40 square arcminutes) on the ELT’s focal plane. MOSAIC is optimized to deliver maximum efficiency for astronomical surveys and to achieve the best possible signal-to-noise ratio for the faintest sources—ranging from stars in the local Universe to galaxies from the epoch of reionization. With its multi-object and multi-IFU (integral field unit) capabilities, MOSAIC will serve as a premier instrument for the spectroscopic follow-up of faint sources identified by current or future facilities, such as the James Webb Space Telescope, Euclid, the Roman Space Telescope, the SKA, or LISA.
The presentation is divided into two parts. The first one provides an overview of MOSAIC’s instrumental capabilities, including the instrument’s overall architecture and observation modes, as well as the project’s current status and organization. The second part reviews the key contributions expected from MOSAIC. It also outlines the organization of the Science Working Groups and the plans for utilizing Guaranteed Time Observation (GTO), which will be entirely dedicated to the development of combined surveys.
How to join ? The webinar will be hosted using the CNRS platform WEBINAIRE. To join the session, simply click on the following link or copy and paste the address into your web browser: https://visio.numerique.gouv.fr/ihm-kwey-gxn
