    2. Le ESO User committee lance son sondage annuel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The Users Committee (UC) represents ESO’s astronomical community forming a direct link between the users and ESO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    On an annual basis we ask users for feedback through our User Committee Poll. It is an anonymous survey, and the answers will be only seen by the UC members who will use them as input for discussions during the annual meeting of the UC and ESO scheduled in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    4. ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    To increase the scientific return from its space science missions, the European Space Agency (ESA) welcomes applications from scientists interested in pursuing research projects based on data publicly available in the ESA Space Science Archives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme is open to scientists, at all career levels, affiliated with institutes in ESA Member States and Collaborating States. We will also consider strong applications from outside those states. Early-career scientists are particularly encouraged to apply. Research projects can be carried out at ESAC (Madrid) and at ESTEC (Noordwijk). During their visits, lasting 1-3 months, visiting scientists will have access to archives and mission specialists for help with the retrieval, calibration, and analysis of archival data. ESA covers travel costs from and to the home institution and provides support for lodging expenses and meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les participants sont invit\u00e9s \u00e0 s’inscrire qu’ils pr\u00e9voient y assister en personne ou \u00e0 distance, et pour les 3 jours complets ou seulement 1 ou 2 jours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    6. European astronomy: science vision beyond 2040, June 23-27, 2025, Cork (Ireland)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The future of European astronomy is being shaped in the coming years and to address this we are organising a symposium entitled \u00ab\u00a0European astronomy: science vision beyond 2040\u00a0\u00bb at the European Astronomical Society’s Annual Meeting in Cork, 23-27 June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This session will discuss the science priorities beyond 2040 and is given particular impetus by the fact that ESO has set up a process to select its next flagship project in the coming years and has initiated a discussion with the astronomical community. Our symposium, S11, will focus on the scientific vision beyond 2040 and will feature a mixture of invited and contributed talks and solicit abstracts for these. Abstract submission is now open, and the deadline is Monday, March 3, 2025, which is also the deadline for fee waiver requests.     The focus of this symposium is on the science that the astronomical community expects will be crucial in the 2040s and for which we need to start planning now, but presentations on breakthrough technology that might transform our science on the same timescale are also very welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We are pleased to announce that the abstract submission for a Special Session dedicated to Euclid’s first 50 square degrees is now open! We wish to invite you all to submit your contributions on any scientific topic related (but not limited) to Quick Release 1 (Q1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    8. EAS2025 SS28: The Outer Solar System in its Stellar Environment – in Large Surveys Area, June 26, Cork (Ireland)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Asteroids and comets – being relics of the early Solar System stages – are fundamental to our understanding of its formation and history; and possibly for the origin of life as a source of water and organic material delivery onto our primitive Earth. One still intriguing source of long period comets with large eccentricities and inclinations, is the hypothetical Oort cloud. Such objects can be triggered to move in the inner Solar System region as well as being ejected to interstellar space; similarly inter-stellar objects originating from other stars have also visited our Solar System. This outer region being the interface of the Solar System dynamics with the stellar environment and the galactic potential, it tackles different domains of astronomy. All having moreover shown recent development thanks to the results of recent European Gaia mission data release and show potential with the future Gaia releases, LSST and other survey programmes, and the Comet Interceptor mission.

    Cet atelier a pour objectif de pr\u00e9parer la communaut\u00e9 astrophysique fran\u00e7aise \u00e0 l\u2019exploitation des capacit\u00e9s de l\u2019Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) et \u00e0 leur compl\u00e9mentarit\u00e9 avec le t\u00e9lescope spatial James Webb (JWST), sur les th\u00e9matiques de la formation stellaire et des disques protoplan\u00e9taires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    L\u2019atelier amorcera des discussions se focalisant sur de potentiels programmes d\u2019observation, les strat\u00e9gies observationnelles, les outils en communs d\u00e9j\u00e0 disponibles et \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper ou encore la mod\u00e9lisation d\u2019observations synth\u00e9tiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Chaque contribution devra proposer au moins une partie sur la synergie que ces deux t\u00e9lescopes offriront. Les pr\u00e9sentations seront n\u00e9cessairement courtes (12\u2019+3\u2019), et les pr\u00e9sentations en pr\u00e9sentiel seront privil\u00e9gi\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This is the initial announcement for the upcoming ESO workshop \u00ab\u00a0Planetary Formation and Exoplanets in the ELT era\u00a0\u00bb at ESO Garching, 17 – 21 November 2025.
    This workshop will discuss our understanding of how giant and rocky planets form and evolve, their internal structure and that of their atmosphere, in the context of the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The main aims of the workshop are to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. inform the ESO community about the status, schedule, modes and performances of the MORFEO\/MICADO, HARMONI, METIS, MOSAIC, ANDES and PCS instruments;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. present and revisit the science that will be addressed by the ELT, the scientific cases, samples, strategies of observation, calibration, data analysis and interpretation tools of the programmes dedicated to the study of the planetary formation and exoplanets;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. foster collaboration and synergy within the community to harmonize our efforts, tools and strategies for the preparatory work on the ELT programmes dedicated to these topics within the framework of the guaranteed and open time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
